Reality Rivals: The First Season

What I enjoyed most was that there isn’t one obvious way to play your character. You can focus on relationships, try to win challenges and gain power, or play a little more strategically with who you trust and who you distance yourself from. The fact that the cast remembers those interactions gives the season some continuity, and the branching paths make me curious about how differently the same story can play out. For a relatively small indie game, there’s a lot here to experiment with.

This scratches a very specific reality-TV itch. You’re constantly weighing whether someone is actually on your side or just being useful until the next vote, and the game gives you enough control over those relationships to make the outcome feel personal. I especially liked that the challenges and social decisions feed into each other instead of feeling like two completely separate systems.

The branching choices are handled pretty well. I noticed that certain conversations felt different depending on how I’d interacted with people earlier, so I can already see why replaying the season would be worthwhile. It has that “let me try a completely different strategy next time” feeling.

I made one alliance thinking I was being clever and immediately regretted it later. 😂 That’s probably the best thing I can say about the social system—the decisions don’t just disappear after the conversation ends.

I went into this expecting mostly a story game, but the competitive parts give it a nice change of pace. Getting the House Captain position also makes the challenges feel like they have an actual purpose rather than being random minigames.

The social side is probably my favorite part. Characters don’t just feel like dialogue options sitting in a menu; the way you treat them can come back around when you least want it to.
