About Rivals
Rivals is an investigative puzzle game that asks you to piece together the story of Josh and Luke.
The game is a detective puzzle scenario, in which players may inspect sources, documents, audio logs and records in order to solve the puzzles contained.
The game takes place on one screen containing all the resources. The player will piece together the story chapter by chapter, receiving validation every 5th correct chapter.
The player will experience a rich, human drama, while also engaging in the sort of logical deduction found in Return of the Obra Dinn and Her Story.
The game plays for roughly 2-3 hours and features an NG+ mode.

This story is compelling and the right level of challenging. I finished it in a little over 2 hours, and don't regret it. My one complaint is that I REALLY would have appreciated subtitles. I have audio processing issues, so a dozen+ retro-styled audio files (e.g., bad mics and static!) without in-game captions meant that part of the puzzle was inherently harder for me than intended, and required more listens to catch what pieces were needed to solve the puzzles. Please consider accessibility in future releases, especially if using audio.2 found this helpful

Really unique puzzle game with a lot of heart, the creator clearly had an understanding of its theme, firm recommend. (you'll need to be ok with listening to audio excerpts without transcripts, but it's well voice-acted)
Much better than Conspiracy, you can really see the improvements made between games. Unique, compelling story with good voice acting as well. The new game plus mode was a fantastic addition that was really fun to play through. Great job Owlskip! :)
Great depiction of the musical scenes of the 00's in a deduction puzzle game.
There is a wave of games like this coming out. The children of Obra Dinn, Hyperspace Outlaw, Golden Idol, and the Roottrees - Great-grandchildren of Infocom and countless others. Rivals fits perfectly in the genre while also being a love letter to a window of music filled with stories just like this one. Rivals isn't all that difficult, but you can't help but find yourself enamored by the story itself and the music that inspired it. Definitely worth the low price for a few hours of learning about Luke & Josh.
