Sandwalkers

Sandwalkers is a terraforming game. If you approach it with that mindset, it becomes a lot more interesting. You're playing as a city which sends out groups of eclectic characters to venture forward and find ways to bring the world around you to a manageable state. I got as far as I felt I needed in the game, and got bored towards the late game, but this is par for the course with many excellent RPGs. It would be cool if some of the terraforming your characters did persisted between runs, but it appears to be entirely due to metaprogression upgrades. Still cool, and still fun if you imagine it as a terraforming game.

The graphics are beautiful, but I felt their style didn't suit this model. I loved Legend of Keepers and its randomness, but Sandwalkers lost that characteristic; the battles are predictable, except for the bosses. I also found the map layout tedious, and since I use a weak PC, for a game with 2D graphics, I felt it was poorly optimized. I wouldn't exactly say not to buy it, but I think some people might give it a chance; perhaps it just didn't appeal to me.

i played many turn based and rogue games. this is slow and doesnt give new players training. play roguebook instead

It's a cute atmospheric pixel art game. I also enjoyed being part of the Early Access process. It was buggy, but usually interesting and functional, with a higher difficulty curve than now.

This is an original roguelike, but not a great one. After your caravan dies, you start where you left off in the last mission. Unlike in a typical roguelike, you don’t need that many runs to unlock almost every upgrade. The con: I got killed by the Colosseum, and now I have to start over again and farm and level up just to challenge the boss again. I consider that a waste of time.
