Leviathan: The Last Day of the Decade

Nice music but that was the only nice thing about it. The writing seemed oddly misogynistic and the art was just un-comfy and not in a good way.

Leviathan: The Last Day of the Decade is a dark and unusual narrative adventure that combines the structure of a visual novel with detective investigation, point-and-click exploration, puzzles, and supernatural fantasy. Developed and published by Lostwood, it takes place in a bleak world shaped by disease, aristocratic privilege, political corruption, and strange supernatural forces. Rather than relying on constant action, the game builds its appeal through atmosphere, dialogue, mysteries, and the gradual discovery of disturbing truths surrounding its characters and society. The story takes place in a country devastated by a deadly pandemic and governed by an undead ruler known as the Plague King. Five powerful noble families dominate society, creating an environment where status can determine whether someone receives justice or escapes responsibility entirely. Against this background, the protagonist becomes consumed by a deeply personal investigation involving the murder of his mother. Point and click story with some really interestnig world build, characters and art style. Music gets repetitive quickly and very frustrated by lack of text log. Sadly, the game is unfinished, unpolished and not satisfying.

An odd little hidden gem that deserved a much better final act than the one it got; the only game that I have ever felt compelled to write a guide for. The devs are allegedly, and I quote, "splitsville," and the story absolutely crumbles near the ending... but the earlier acts and broader dark fantasy setting are something special. I still think about them years later. They were worth experiencing, and I'd gladly experience them again.
