[h1] What a messy 16-bit game. I was hoping for more badass experience but I end up with this abomination of a game. Game did not work from the launcher so I had to start it directly from game files. First of all controller doesn't work. Gameplay feels kinda bland. Levels might be not the worst but how you shoot and climb is a disaster. You have your floating Ymp companion that apparently don't leave you even when taking dump. Gameplay consists of shooting rabbits and avoiding other nuisances. No screen filters like CRT effect. Besides that it plays like your usual emulator game. [/h1]

Not recommended until Piko properly renames the typo'd executable named - I kid you not: 'Dorke and imp [dot] exe'. Even the game window title typo's it as "Imp", so it is clearly a build error. How on Earth did they not catch this because it literally makes the game unplayable due to a 'missing executable' error by the Steam client. Besides the launch issues, the game has the typical Piko emulation finish of extra input lag. Mind you, you are getting punished HARD - no level check points in this game - if you miss even one jump because of crappy inputs. You should probably ditch the "work" done by Piko anyway and run the ROM that is most likely being emulated with something that does not suck. I can tell the original game has some interesting designs such as ledge grabbing that even modern games could learn from. It is just that you are not going to get the best experience if you run it through this Steam release. It has the Amiga music feel to it. It has those soft synth tracks. UPDATE: Apparently it WAS made with Amiga computers according to a Vice article. There are a bunch of homebrews like that. Having played the first two levels, I have to say that this game is not fun…

I'm not going to lie, I had never heard of this game until I saw it in a Fanatical bundle and figured, "Why not?" Because it was so cheap. I'd like to recommend this game and say it's just "not for everyone" but decided after beating it that it was too annoying at times to deserve a recommendation. Instead, I'd like to say it's a light no, but you can think of it more as a mixed review. The controls are clunky, which is fine because what else would you expect from a game that was originally supposed to be on the SNES? The art style/graphics are... fine, for the most part, but the first world is really visually and mechanically boring. The game really starts to feel, not good, but better once you get to the second world. The level design feels LESS random, and the worlds themselves actually look unique. All of that considered, I WOULD have recommended the game, but then I spent about two hours on World 4-8, and my thoughts changed because it highlights what are, in my opinion, two of the game's worst issues.
