Simply the best start for a trilogy ever made. Filled with good story, captivating lore and exciting gameplay, this was the start of the greatest series ever made. Too bad bioware no longer makes games like these, so savor the old and have hope for the new.3 found this helpful
This isn't a fair review as I barely played any of the game, but what little I did play told me this wasn't the game for me. The story seems interesting, but the gameplay seems tedious and confusing. I understand that this is nearly 20 years old now, but I'm not interested in micromanaging teammates. I'm also not a fan of shooters. I saw RPG and good story and said I'll try, but this seems like something I would enjoy better as a youtube video on my other monitor while I played something else. I'm sure thew game is fantastic for those who like this kind of thing, but it's not for me.1 found this helpful

Absolute classic banger from childhood. Cannot recommend it enough. This is a FOUNDATIONAL game in gaming history.
[4/5] Excellent. When I first played this on XBOX 360 back in the day I bounced off it. Playing it on PC around 2017 I ended up really enjoying it and I do think it is a fantastic RPG.
Mass Effect 1 is a technically broken and janky (mostly in the entertaining way, see: High Explosive Ammunition) game with some interesting writing and novel enough concepts for its time. It holds up alright mechanically and, in spite of some OpenAL32 related crashes and other UX issues it's mostly fine in spite of the leveling system being rather shallow and money being free. It's not bioware's finest RPG but it is enjoyable enough, Husks are disgustingly overpowered and annoying/10.
