Dead Space (2008) (2009)

My favorite horror game of all time, hands down. Top five listed bellow: - #1 Dead Space - #2 Resident Evil - #3 Dino Crisis - #4 Silent Hill - #5 Parasite Eve Always loved Sci-fi, blending it with horror is like combining my two favorite things of all time, it's my bread and butter. Fact it is number one in my top five says a lot, it's such a shame this brilliant trilogy has been nullified. The remake was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, never let the corporate capitalists touch anything, they will destroy our beloved games. On a more positive note however, I have fond memories of Dead Space, specifically the third one but I'll never forget my introduction to the series back in 2009, my dad had gotten us DS1, Fallout 3 and Resident Evil 5 for the Playstation, it was a great time to be alive and playing these games on the PS3, reminiscing about it on PC is in itself a nice thing, but it doesn't quite have that charm as the late 2000s did. Dead Space is probably my first and only experience with survival horror and boy could I not have picked a better one. You've probably heard about this game and how it has a decent bit of hype around it, and I feel like I can say it is warranted. For a 2008 title it feels like it was setting up what most of modern survival horror is today. Really cool lore, a 12-chapter story, simple but satisfying gameplay, and genuinely brilliant sound design. The sound design alone made me jump more times than seeing any necromorphs on my screen. Collecting all the different weapons and suits feels amazing. The variety of weapons as well as how much they can be upgraded makes you really consider what you want in your loadout and where you want all your power nodes to go. Each chapter having its own "challenge", for lack of better word, is really fun. Whether it's navigating through a room full of flaming engines, or fighting off 12 necromorphs, or ejecting giant green radioactive space balls while maintaining your oxygen, it's super fun every time. I really didn't expect this game to be so thought out and well designed. Play this for yourself, it's really fun and it'll surprise you.

Original is far better than the remake, however the pc port could use some work.

10/10 MASTERPIECE

I last played this game in 2012, a whole 14 years ago. In 2026 it's still a fantastic game, and it runs great and looks gorgeous on a modern PC with a widescreen. Can't wait to finish it and play the sequels.
