Tails Noir

I remember being very excited for this game once it was first announced and played the prologue in 2019. The prologue left me very excited for more, once it released i saw the initial reviews and was put off from playing it. 7 years later I decided to give it a chance, as I assumed like any story game there can be conflicting feelings at the end, and some of the best games do truly leave you questioning more once your finished. What I like: - The visuals are amazing, I enjoyed the art and design, and its probably the main point that kept me playing until the end. - A good amount of the dialogue between characters is fun in my opinion, and there is decent amount of variety in the type of characters you become involved with, which did add to the immersion. What I Dislike: - I enjoyed the game thoroughly up until act 3 and beyond, the spin they put really whiplashed me from being invested in the story to confusion and boredom honestly. It started to feel rushed, with the dialogue options quickly becoming more fluffed. - Beyond act 3, there is barely any interactivity, if any at all. Where to start, with this game? I will be up-front that what many of the other reviewers are saying is somewhat true: the game takes a very unexpected turn and leaves you with far, far too many questions by the end, but there's a reason for that: This was supposed to be the first game in a series, not standalone. It was not written or produced to be an open-and-closed book, there was supposed to be a very complex part 2, and it takes very little research about Egg Nut to find that out. The prologues, which came out sometime later, intended to be a bit of filler between the parts of the series, go a very long way towards explaining why the story took the turn it did in the first place. This was to all appearances a planned twist, not a rush-job. So don't approach it like a standalone story. All of this unfortunately is for naught as the studio closed sometime last year and I can't help but feel a little robbed by knowing that I will in all likelihood never see the continuation (and conclusion?) of this story, and that hurts most because I actually got invested before learning about that. Loved the art style, but cannot recommend the game. Story in first couple chapters is really intriguing and certainly drew me in, but the rest of the game did not live up to this intro and in the end I feel kinda cheated. Like someone promised you a good bedtime story and then fell asleep themselves halfway through. Things feel rushed and unfinished. I bought this on sale and it does not feel worth the $10 I paid.

Tales Noir starts off as a pretty typical detective mystery, but slowly turns into a much darker and more gripping sci-fi story. I really enjoyed playing it, especially the characters, music, and pixel art, and it reminded me quite a bit of Tales of the Neon Sea, which is one of my favourite games. I liked how the story gradually revealed its darker side, although the ending felt a little abrupt and I really wish there had been more than one ending, especially with some more hopeful outcomes for the characters and the world they live in.

Smoky Seattle/NYC vibes. Very fun, highly recommend

I had fun playing and the art and music is chefs kiss, but what in the hell was that ending? the plot went off the rails bro like what? I was left super confused ngl. I recommend playing it if you buy It at $4.99 like I did definitely not at full price though.
