There were even times when I had to stop playing for a while because some parts were just too heavy for me. But I kept going, and after finishing it, I can honestly say: It was worth it. The story follows Liang, a bandit who ends up escorting four girls during a really dark period of the late Ming Dynasty. What starts as a simple job slowly turns into something much more complicated, with revenge, survival, and redemption becoming a big part of the story. But for me, the biggest reason I became attached to this game was Man Sui. At first, I wasn't completely sure what to think about her. As the story continued and more of her past was revealed, though, I started caring more and more about what would happen to her. Her story is honestly heartbreaking. That's why seeing Man Sui survive and eventually grow up in the good ending genuinely made me happy. This VN contains Loli content and it needs a tag for that. I hate that this wasn’t labeled anywhere in the description or the promo art. I wish I could delete this VN from my brain. There is a difference between depicting historical realism and eroticizing 11 year olds bodies for the titillation of the viewer. I’m not a prude but mislabeling erotic content is harmful for everyone since it means people can’t control their own exposure to content they want to avoid. Mislabelling or misleading audiences on content is also how the actual prudes win when they try to legislate against adult media. Also, the translation is janky and super awkward. That alone is not worth the price. VN’s rely heavily on text and dialogue, so if that’s been phoned in, then what’s the point? The slang is so random at times. You can tell that whoever is translating doesn’t have the context to go with the slang word choice, so it just sounds broken and awkward. The journey is painted in bleak, harrowing shades, making you dread what horrors await the precious souls you come to care for with each passing chapter. Yet, through its masterfully orchestrated mystery, suspense, and the unforgettable chemistry between its leads, putting the game down is nearly impossible until you reach one of the many conclusions for the main characters. The revenge and redemption arcs are executed brilliantly, gradually unraveling the protagonists' pasts while keeping crucial questions unanswered until the final moments — all while remaining authentic to its historical setting.
