About Warp Frontier

Vincent Cassini, decorated war hero, but still just a Captain in the police force he started, is patrolling the orbital slums of his home planet Cetus, when he stumbles across a lead in a war crime that resulted in the mysterious disappearance of thousands of Cetans, including his first wife and best friend. Captain Cassini and his robot partner MAC, must ally with morally questionable characters to stop an old enemy before their crimes are erased forever.
Solve puzzles in point and click adventure style and navigate Vince’s relationships with his family, allies and enemies. The decisions you make and the order in which you undertake tasks result in varying outcomes each playthrough, potentially costing the lives of thousands. Your actions ultimately decide what type of father, partner, friend, officer and saviour Vince will be.
  • Make decisions that affect the lives of thousands of people, and determine relationships between family and friends
  • A 2D point and click adventure in HD
  • 6-8 hours of gameplay with branching decisions, resulting in multiple unique ending sequences
  • Authentic Australian feel, voiced by a predominantly Australian cast
  • An alternate timeline of humanity branching from a catastrophic singularity event
  • Original Soundtrack by Thomas Regin
  • Explore space in your own ship, from the planet surface to the outer reaches of the planetary ring

Man, I really wanted to like this game. I'm always on the lookout for sci-fi point-and-clicks, so I thought this would be right up my alley. Sadly, it had enough things working against it that I can't recommend. First off, I don't care for the painterly art style. That's on me for not noticing in the screenshots. From a distance they looked more "normal", but in game the odd appearance is more noticeable and off-putting. I also didn't care for the voice actor of MAC, the robot companion, at all. In fact, I muted the voices within about ten minutes of starting the game. After that it was better. The story was somewhat decent, but it also felt surprisingly small. A lot of characters and plotlines just kind of dissolved to nothing. You don't really get to have final conversations or resolutions for most characters, just a quick recap at the end. It made the ending feel extremely abrupt and unsatisfying. The writing was hit and miss. Sometimes I was amused and even chuckled in a few spots, but mostly it felt bland. The biggest negative though was just how tedious so many parts of the game felt. It was a classic "not respecting the player's time" problem. Two major puzzle sections in…

Warp Frontier is such a fun sci-fi adventure it seems a shame that it hasn't gotten more buzz. On one hand, yes, the UI is janky and the voice acting is of mixed quality, but this is an indie adventure and fans of the genre are used to that stuff. The main drawcard here is the story and the lore. While Warp Frontier doesn't go anywhere novel with the "rugged space cop investigates a mysterious anomaly" theme, it does it all entertainingly. It's great that you can advance the story in a variety of different ways, and unlike most "choices matter" games it feels like all of the choices are ones that the characters could plausibly make in the context of the world. That is to say that the choices don't exist solely to create dramatic tension - most of them are not even signposted and just happen incidentally, just like in real life. The puzzles are more typically gamey where you try the most obvious thing, then an arbitrary roadblock appears that forces you to go back and try something different, then another arbitrary roadblock appears and so on... But that's the genre. It can feel a bit silly running back and forth down the same corridor moving fuses around because your guy can't car…

Not terrible but.... I found this to be subpar on almost all levels (Pacing, puzzles, mechanics, graphics etc..) Enough so to most likely not continue and uninstall. Get it from a sale if you must.

This game really could have used another refinement pass for bugs, UI design, and overall experience. If this was released in 2000 or even 2010, it would have been an excellent point & click adventure game with Beneath a Steel Sky or Space Quest vibes, minus the comedy. As it stands, it is a pretty decent adventure game from a story and high level design perspective, but the lack of polish that many other titles offer prevents me from recommending it. For example: [list] [*] I encountered two game breaking bugs that required reverting to a save game and replaying a good amount. This is why I can't recommend it. I'll change this in the unlikely event that I find out they are fixed. [*] The inventory panel enlarges on mouseover, so there's no cursor precision - you have to chase the item you're trying to select with the pointer. Old items are rarely cleared from the inventory, and there are redundant items, plus gaps in the slots, and as a result, you have to constantly scroll the inventory panel, which all feels like the UI getting in the way of the immersion. In later stages of the game, there's a design hack where the inventory is reused for actions involving your MAC (sidekick …

I liked the interface, the story and the lenght. What might be missing is a journal feature to remind you of the story after a period of inactivity.
