Gemini Rue

A pretty solid cyberpunk story that almost get lost in one of, if not the absolute worst UI system ever seen in a point and click game. I have no idea who thought that was a good idea or system. Add to that the absolutely garbage combat sequences thats a chore if you want the achievements for taking no damage (even if I was kind of stupid and never realized you could lower the difficulty...). The writing is alright, the voice acting uneven but we get Shelly Shenoy in a early role (Eileen in Kathy Rain, Malkhiresa in Unavowed). It looks great and the soundtrack is good. Is the wrtiing good enough for a recommended? Yes, on a deep sale. But not otherwise and definitly use a walkthrough to save some headache from some of the more obtuse puzzles and lower the combat difficulty (something i didn't realize you could do...).

A really enjoyable cyberpunk point-and-click game. It really reminded me of flashback which was a childhood favourite of mine. The story is fantastic, full of twists and turns, and it delivers a satisfying ending. I loved the overall atmosphere of this one it’s dark, gritty, and enhanced by beautiful rain ambience throughout many sections. I couldn’t stop playing and ended up finishing it in just a few sittings. The combat sections are abit janky but I thought they were surprisingly fun though the inventory management was confusing at times, and I had to look up a guide more than once to figure out how to progress. Overall, the voice acting and storytelling were excellent and the game flew by for me.

Another very late return to a game I briefly played for my August 2015 Farewell Extravaganza event, Gemini Rue finally gets a proper and complete playthrough. The characters, the future-noir atmosphere, the dialogue & voice acting, the simple yet satisfying point-and-click gameplay, and the twists/reveals. Oh, the reveals were so good. The voice acting wasn't great for everyone, but the main characters were outstanding. My favorite voice was the young woman who slides into the story in unexpected ways. The Director spoke with steadiness and authority, while hinting at the frustrated and terrified man behind the PA system. Our main character, Azriel Odin, had an intensity that almost felt sinister, befitting a man with his particular occupational history. Man, it feels good to play a game with an EFFECTIVE main character. So many modern games are written to make the main character an ineffective little puppy dog, with no personal motivation or agency other than doing what other people tell him.
