Players appreciate the game's immersive storytelling approach and sci-fi narrative delivered through environmental details and computer logs, with many noting that unlocking abilities like sprint and better weapons significantly improves the experience in later acts. However, common complaints center on the slow early game pacing, restrictive combat mechanics (like limited weapon aiming), repetitive biome design, and lack of fast-travel options that make backtracking tedious. Most players recommend the game if you're patient with its deliberate, methodical design focused on immersion over acti
If you have seen the trailer you may notice the movement seems slow and you would be right. This is a deliberate choice, this game distinguishes itself by its focus on immersive storytelling. You're not playing a king of darkness or a hollow insectoid creature or some other supernatural thing. You're an ordinary human civilian in an ordinary space suit. The story begins with you being sent to investigate why a space freighter no longer has any communications and re-establish those communications and the game takes place entirely on this freighter. The biomes look really similar and there is little variance with the enemies, again this is intentional as the focus of this game is on realism and an immersive experience. The gun can't aim upward and only shoots from side to side but the game is entirely designed around this. Progression in the game revolves entirely around finding keys and backtracking to the doors these keys unlock while you shoot everything in your way with progressively powerful guns that you will find, especially if you follow the trail to the superweapons which are probably the best thing about this game. The keys take the form of keycards, pin codes, and machine…9 found this helpful
Alright, so you should probably save fairly often. Otherwise you might have to redo some sections. Story wise it's a fairly Sci-Fi trope, but it's done pretty well. Story bits can be found through various computers and specific plot progression when completing missions. The final act gives you a bit more information as to what's going on, and it ironically feels like the longest part of the actual story. Gameplay wise, you're a mechanic that's also fairly combat savvy. You'll progress through the ship to accomplish missions, find keys, upgrades, and various other things that you'll need to unlock other sections of the ship. The layout of the ship is mostly fine, but I do wish there was a tram or something that allowed you to fast-travel. It doesn't take long to get to different spots, but there's a severe lack of real clarity on where you need to go at times. The amount of times I found myself at a dead end and had to retrace my steps to figure out what I missed is far too numerous to count. I have a pretty severe issue with short-term memory, so it can be pretty difficult for me to remember where I may have seen a locked door(not key locked, just normal locked), or l…5 found this helpful
Update: Changing from not recommended to recommended. If you're willing to overcome first couple of hours of slow progress, you will later find and unlock abilities such as shield that negate damage and sprint that allows you to run past enemies. You also get better weapons that make the game more decent. Could be a decent action game if not for atrocious combat mechanics and design choices. The game begins with a spaceship being sent to a distant planet. Its aim is to build a base so that mankind may more easily transport resources and people to the new planet. But once contact with the ship is lost, a team is dispatched to investigate what happened. You assume the role of a female or male member of this team. Which character you choose is irrelevant because the experience will be the same (except for an exclusive achievement). You can move around, jump, crouch, shoot, and interact with objects. Even though the game's metroidvania tag implies that you will need to explore the world and collect new items to overcome challenges, this part of the game is basic. Your primary task is to explore each room and seek for keycards that unlock other rooms. The map is fine because it s…3 found this helpful
It was fun, and the level of detail is good in such that if you don't pay attention to the desks, you'll miss the ones you can open that are glowing blue. Small things like this hide good stuff. Its not for everyone, and its more realistic slow pace than the fast pace of Super M. That said, the ending left it open for a sequel I'd pick up if it happens.3 found this helpful
Not ability-gated so it's sort of like a simpler, side-scrolling System Shock. A lot of walking until you get the sprint, but most upgrades were not strictly necessary other than the armour. It was a fairly slow pace but I had a decent time of it, will be going for higher completion rate (not sure if missile launcher was bugged and unavailable or if I just missed one locker somewhere).1 found this helpful
