About Mechs & Mercs: Black Talons

A devastating war has torn the galaxy apart. Dozens of planets and star systems have declared independence or forged new alliances, while governments fall and warlords rise to power. Chaos and corruption are everywhere and so to maintain order and negotiate peace between the ruling factions, private mercenary armies are called to action.

You are the commander of the Black Talons company, currently stationed in the Oberon system. After an eventful campaign, the military Tzanar Union has overrun the planet of Genai and blocked all departure from the system: leaving you and the Black Talons stranded. The only means of escape is to help the Genai forces repel the invading army and recapture the planet.

Features

  • Extensive campaign mode where the actions of the player have a direct impact on the local system’s balance of power
  • Persistent and fully customizable squads
  • Various unit classes with specialized roles and their own distinctive set of weapons, abilities and skill trees
  • 5 worlds with differing environments and weather conditions
  • Powerful mechs can enter the battlefield and turn the tide of combat
  • Customize and upgrade your base with weapons and infrastructure that will boost squad numbers, teleport soldiers or even bombard the battlefield
  • Faction relations influence a player’s progress throughout the game: either by giving access to unique units or interfering with missions

Never has a RTS game pissed me off to the point of rage quitting. And mind you, this was a game I played since middle school (Way before 2020) and wanted to return to. So you can imagine my surprise when I kept on noticing one of my Heavy squads refusing to stay in place to defend a objective just to get themselves and one other Heavy Squad killed. Given the buggy mechanics and overall unfair imbalance I wouldn't return to this game.

https://youtu.be/ZtVgO4ZxAeM Squad based RPG combat with an awkward cover and reinforcement mechanic will drag out combat well past the point of interest.

Strategy game with squads of mercs and some mechs, like the name says. The game is fine but the units are a bit slow and some maps are too large, which can lead to really long missions. Factions can become hostile or allied, leading to new recruitment options. Has some good ideas but could be a bit faster.

Mechs & Mercs: Black Talons, developed and published by Camel 101, is a real-time tactical strategy game set in a gritty science-fiction universe where corporate interests, alien invasions, and mercenary contracts collide. The game places you in command of the Black Talons, a private military company stranded in the Genai system after a large-scale invasion by the Tzanar Union. With no immediate way home, your only option is to take contracts, build alliances, and slowly push back against the occupying force while strengthening your own organization. The narrative backdrop is straightforward but effective, providing enough motivation to frame the campaign without overwhelming players with heavy exposition. At its core, Black Talons blends squad-based tactics with real-time strategy elements. Rather than managing vast armies or constructing sprawling bases, you command small squads composed of mechanized units and infantry. Each squad typically consists of multiple units that function as a cohesive team, allowing for tactical positioning, flanking maneuvers, and coordinated assaults. The battlefield perspective emphasizes terrain awareness, line of sight, and cover usage, encouragi…
