It's tough separating a sequel from its ancestry. This is a good TD game with a striking art style, interesting (if somewhat roughly paced) plot and advancement, and a core twist of towers being characters with their own core gimmick. It's both not bad and not as good as fans of the original were hoping. The first game in the series is the better one, a "lightning in a bottle" TD game that the developer struggled for 12 years to craft a worthy sequel to. I strongly recommend the original Defender's Quest, and still recommend this one with managed expectations - while it's not better than the first one, it's still much better than mass-produced slop TD games by a mile. If you prefer this one's art style, by all means get it first and play it through.

Great sequel to Defender's Quest. I love the characters and the mechanics between the two factions. It's not a AAA game with tons of polygons and menu animations, it's more like a really good toybox. I prefer it to minecraft and the sims. definitely doesn't need a top end pc.

good game. good story. what a twist

6/10 SO FAR, EARLY REVIEW. As a giant fan of the first game, and someone who general finds tower defense utterly boring, this one has a very slow start for me. Granted I am trying to do each with the maximum star gain only. This exposes something to me, both my ineptitude and potentially a grindy experience which feels more on rails than otherwise. The story so far, only on mission 5 I believe, has a level of charm but not nearly evoking the pleasure I found in the original. I also got the game very very cheap. I recommend it based on lower expectations instead of my review based on the comparison to the experience I loved in the first game.
