This is a platforming game that is not really balanced for single player play5 found this helpful
I don't understand why it has the Tower Defense or Strategy tags. It is neither. It's a platformer with multiple characters you switch between in real time, like The Lost Vikings. You also build little turrets as you go. That does not qualify as "Tower Defense". Tower Defense is a clearly defined genre, with a build phase and a defense phase, You place objects to route enemies into paths that optimize the damage of your defensive towers, and slow enemies down, so that they spend longer getting attacked, and aren't able to just run towards the point you're defending in a straight line. If this game is a tower defense, then so is Divinity Original Sin 2, with the Summoner's totems. I'm not even going to review this game, because it's being advertized as something it's not.4 found this helpful
This is a very approachable and fun couch co-op tower defense game couple with some puzzle solving and 2D platforming. Super underrated as a couch co-op experience. Some of the dialog is unnecessary but the mechanics are solid and fun.2 found this helpful
You can tell that this was mainly designed for Co-op, as solo it's very easy to get overwhelmed during the tower parts of the end-game. The AI teammates are essentially useless, the weapons are very underpowered, and the last stage is just increasingly strong waves with the exact same gameplay loop. The graphics have a solid retro look, and some of the characters are fun, but the story is not strong.1 found this helpful
I've seen a lot of negative reviews regarding the balance of this game. I don't know. I'm early game still, but I've really enjoyed playing through the levels, and even replaying them once I learn enemy/wave patterns to properly set up defenses at the end of the levels to unlock everything. I really enjoy playing this co-op, but I don't think it's necessary. Maybe I will change my opinion later in the game, but so far through act 2, the art, music, story, and gameplay have all been a joy!
Proof that the best defense is a good offense... or just hiding behind a giant shield while praying the boss doesn't break your guard.
