✦ AI summary

Turok 2: Seeds of Evil divides players significantly, with some calling it one of the best shooters ever made while others find it frustratingly difficult and poorly designed compared to the original Turok. Common complaints include extreme difficulty spikes from level 2 onward with severe ammo scarcity, pointless mandatory objectives that don't reward exploration, and a remaster that allegedly deviates problematically from the N64 original.

(Prologue) Recently (last year that is) I replayed one of my favorite FPS games of all time, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter. A classic shooter game with great gameplay, music, level design, enemies, and weapons, features that made the experience of playing on the harder difficulty while 100% the game all the more worth while. And as of recent, I decided to dust off the digital cobwebs of some old games of mine in the library, including this game, Turok 2: Seeds of Evil. I had faint memories of what the game was like so I played it again to get a good feel of what this game had to offer, and let's just say, it wasn't exactly a sequel that lived up to its predecessor. (Thesis) Turok 2: Seeds of Evil is more incoherent and frustrating as a FPS game than I'd originally thought and after playing through the normal difficulty and hardcore difficulty, I come to this points as to what works and what doesn't in this game. Pros/Minimum - Gameplay: When Turok 2: Seeds of Evil isn't difficult to navigate through, it can be a fairly decent experience, the gunplay isn't too bad, and fighting through the oblivion chambers was a nice upgrade from the challenge portals of the first game. But sadly that…

Wayyy too ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hard to be any fun (unlike game 1 which I 100%!). Save-scumming is a must (as soon as level 2!) as you are barely given any ammo. Still you get respawning enemies (though much less now), yet no RPG elements to reward you for killing them! The gameplay, i.e. the shooting, is again marred by all the pointless (!) extra objectives you have to complete, which give you no instant reward (but the achievements or "good" ending at the end) for doing them. The main problem with this game is that you have to follow a guide (in this case, TWO guides as the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that made the walkthrough didn't include the secrets in the sequencing... idiot) to a T, lest you miss one of the pointless collectibles and have to go to point X in level Y to pick up item Z (after having looked it up in that guide out of sheer frustration)... and (didn't test that but I'm VERY sure) fight all the enemies AGAIN! Exploring *can* be fun in the shooter genre (see e.g. Deus Ex or Bioshlock games), but not with this idiotic difficulty (though I do realise headshots *sometimes* do a lot of damage... I don't quite get the mechanics yet) and lack of RPG elements or any other kind of reward. I mean there's…

Very disappointed. Apparently most positive reviews did not play the original. Heck, even most negative reviews admit they did not. If you want the original experience, you won't have it here. This was a terrible remaster and I have some theories as to why they did the things they did, which I will share briefly or with more detail if I find it interesting. With all the changes this is the best way I can describe it: almost imagine if you will if someone took Doom 3, and "remastered" it to play like Doom 2016 but nearly everything is still the same. Flashlight becomes pointless among many other things. Here is a list of downgrades in this remaster compared to the original N64. And to preface, yes, I adjusted all the settings to get it as close as possible to the original experience including reducing draw distance. 1. Levels were changed. Why? Theory - "it was hard and confusing :(" navigating a HIVE was meant to be confusing. Many objectives were moved to be less missable. 2. Character runs too fast, and the game does too in a way? I think this may be due to the original being designed around the slow down, and this was not taken into account when having higher framerate. 3. Tu…
