bro ion know how people played this in like 2002 without immediately filing for bankruptcy 😭🙏 i left the station feelin like jeff bezos, bought 46 tons of industrial garbage because the numbers looked green, flew for approximately 17 seconds, got intercepted by three unemployed space pirates, my crew started tweaking, my engines caught on fire, my insurance company blocked my number, and now my mortgage collector blowing up my pager talkin bout “where the payment at.” 💀🗣️ nga i wasnt even trying to become a merchant. i was just tryna deliver some boxes and now im learning advanced economics against my will… at gunpoint. this game dont hold your hand. it grabs both ankles and swings you into an asteroid field at mach 7. every station got me buying some completely random extraterrestrial walmart clearance aisle nonsense because “trust me bro it’ll sell for 8 credits more over there.” 😭 five jumps later i got absolutely scammed, my cargo hold empty, my wallet lookin like a ps2 memory card after corruption, and my crew probably updating they linkedin profile and submitting job applications on indeed. the soundtrack got me feelin like im about to make generational wealth whil…

Space Trader: Merchant Marine is an ambitious but uneven space-faring hybrid that reflects both the creativity and the limitations of mid-2000s indie design. Developed and published by Meridian4, the game sets out to combine interstellar trading, light role-playing progression, and first-person combat into a single experience where players can choose how to make their fortune. You begin as a relatively insignificant trader navigating a bureaucratic, tightly regulated universe, and the long-term goal is to rise in wealth and influence by exploiting trade routes, completing contracts, and occasionally resorting to violence when profit demands it. At the heart of the experience is the trading system, which encourages players to travel between planets and space stations in search of favorable prices. Each location offers a range of commodities, and success depends on buying goods cheaply and selling them elsewhere for a profit. In practice, this loop is simple and easy to grasp, making the game accessible even to players unfamiliar with economic simulations. This game is fairly decent. If you could get over the skinny weapons and sometimes easy and predictable AI, you'll actually enjoy this. It takes place in and around space, where you can carry and trade items for cash. However along the way, you can hunt down targets in bounty hunts, which are styled in a deathmatch type of gamemode, for extra cash. It may not seem like its a shooting game, but they really introduce this mode, later in the game, which was a bit unexpected, especially if anyone wants a shooting game. This game has a story. A boring cliched storyline but at least there is a story, with a good presentation that comes with it. There's NPCs in the game that are nicely modelled, even for when this game was released. The game is feeling being to age, as expected, with the time I'm typing this review.

Its a funny little game made with the doom engine. I might be wrong there but it is a funny little game where you try to do some mini fetch quests...

Valve stopped pre Windows 11 computers from installing Steam so there is no physical way to play this game anymore.

an interesting idea, especially in the 2000's but by now has been eclipsed 100 times over by far better games.
