My first hour review: Very cool art design and direction. Cultists have names and jobs. But, when clicking on a cultist's house, it's the same 3D model saying the same line. I'd prefer a portrait and silence. The tutorial should include keyboard shortcuts. I had to look in the menus to find out that F1, F2, and F3 control time. There's a lot of jittering and hitching. My mouse cursor is in one place and then it jumps to another. Even turning down everything in the settings doesn't change much. This is just a colony sim game, why is my 8 year old gaming PC chugging on a game like this? I can run Crysis, damnit. The tutorial just kind of dumps you into this world, which is fine. But there's more to this game than just sacrificing efigies or hapless fanatics. As I said, the atmosphere and direction are amazing. It really drives home the point that you are the big bad cultist guy, trying to make more fantatics. I love the premise but they have to work on their optimization.

Pretty good design. Something similar to first Frostpunk gameplay wise. Some UI would need QOL updates and military units pathfinding sucks, but overall one of the greats Edit: After 28h the game kinda feel bland. I finished most of the maps on Normal difficulty without even going to tier 3 followers. And when it came to that point the map was already too tedious to manage. Something about the UI is not right and it doesnt feel good to fight through it. The game is fun for a while but don't buy at full price.

For the most part it's a very in-depth and well designed city-builder about conquering empires with unnatural horror entities. Easily over 90% of it is perfectly solid. It's exactly what it makes itself out to be, in the best way possible, with one caveat. The horror entities you spawn and control LOOK intimidating but ultimately, just aren't an actual threat. They look the part, for sure, and can pack a punch when faced against an individual target, but against 2 or more, it quickly spirals into a case of putting dents into the enemy fortress's armor, entity after entity. Given how much it costs to spawn anything that can leave home, the game's internal economy just kinda folds in on itself and the "wow" factor of controlling something of a different reality fades when you realize just how fragile and insignificant these creatures actually are.

Pretty dark game with the carving of people but overall enjoyable.

I really enjoy Lovecraftian stuff, and I've been enjoying a lot of city/colony builders recently, so I figured I'd give this one a try. I'm no stranger to playing the 'bad guy' in games either, so I wasn't worried about it getting to dark. What made me not recommend this game was how TEDIOUS it made it all feel. Your workers go 'Praise be to the demon' in the most bored 'I only got 3 hours of sleep, I'm here at my minimum wage not giving a ♥♥♥♥ job' voice you can imagine. And yeah, the person directing the tutorial should be more straightforward, but not ANY gibbering or enthusiasm there either? He sounds like he's trying to teach you accounting, not how to give sacrifices to the Dark Lord. Seriously, like, you are pledging yourself to this, at least have ONE cutscene of you sacrificing someone, have them screaming 'I bequeath my soul to you, oh Tender of Great Abyss' and FLING THEMSELVES off into the abyss. Not just... this 'Oh. I guess it's my turn to get carved up. Joy'. Feeling. Do I have a cult to Droopy Dog??? And the sacrifices... seriously, I know it's a city builder, but the 'sacrificing' to the elder god is basically 'burning tier 1 resources for research points' that's…

I greatly enjoy this game! Very much resource management and city-building, which is what I came for and what I got. It's got excellent texture and wonderfully thematic bits, and I have to pace myself so that I don't spend six hours straight on a Saturday and forget dinner. So that ought to tell you how much I like it. I'm the kind of person who likes Dwarf Fortress and Stardew Valley, so take that as you will. The game has some aspects that some might call micro-managing, but I see that as part of the gameplay. How else would a cult leader find success, bringing meat and drink into the favored ones, gathering resources to summon creatures from beyond, who, in their time in this realm, can attack the unbelievers, showing the might of the Great One? The game does take thought. If you summon a weaker creature and send it against a fortified port, of course it's going to die. In the Cthulhu book, Cthulhu got sent back to the deep by a boat ramming into his head. If you're looking for an easy "haha perish die \*spam units\* dieee" power trip, then this won't be for you.
