About Toukiden: Kiwami
Toukiden: Kiwami is a hunting action game where you team up with other Slayers to strategically dismember and destroy massive Oni monsters using the Targeted Destruction System. Battle through a Japanese history-inspired world, collect over 300 spirit-powered Mitama to customize your weapons, and rise from rookie to legendary warrior alongside memorable allies.
To defeat these huge Oni, players band together to sever, pierce, and crush parts of the Oni using the Targeted Destruction System!
Multiplayer for up to 4 players is supported.
Sever! Pierce! Crush! -Targeted Destruction System-
Some of the Oni players will encounter are many times the size of a human. Defeating these require more than simply attacking. Players must sever a part from the Oni's body, pierce it, and then crush it in order to destroy it. The appropriate use of blade or bow, and cooperation between friendly Slayers is the only way to successfully defeat an Oni!
Spirits of Heroes of Japan's Past (Mitama)
When Oni are beaten, they release captured spirits called Mitama. These Mitama can take residence in weapons and aid the Slayer unlock certain special powers for use against the Oni. There are a wide variety of powers and players can enjoy creating their own original equipment. Also, each of these 300 Mitama from across time come with a special illustration and voice, making them fun to collect.
An Original World painted in Japanese history
The story is set in a world set apart in time and space by the power of the Oni. The player starts as a rookie Slayer in a Slayer village called Utakata and fights the Oni in areas that display characteristics of time periods ranging from ancient days to the early Shogunate.
Friends and Allies
There to show this new rookie around are the veterans Slayers of the Utakata village. These warriors, including Ouka, a swordswoman with no equal in the organization, will guide and train the player as together they battle the Oni and save the human race.

I'd recommend this game purely from how much fun I've had with it. Definitely worth a buy when it's on sale. Yes it is an old game, with lists of cons mentioned by other reviews. Perhaps because I knew what I wanted (experience the complete story) and what I'm stepping into (had previously played the original JPN PSP version), the cons didn't bother me that much. Some things I enjoyed: - THE STORY, MAN. It's simple cheesy and cliche but it works in its setting and the payoff at the end was satisfying. - THE STORY BGMS?? Especially those from the final chapter in Kiwami? -combusts in emotions- - Each character was unique with their own motivation, quirks, backstory, and resolution arc. Their side quest shenanigans reinforce how they're not just another slayer NPC but a whole character in their own right. - As a player, the way I actually felt like a part of the characters' community, especially through the side quests and the journalist sisters in Kiwami. - Hidari's character portrait art are chefs kiss. - The combat difficulty being much more forgiving compared to (eg) MonHunt: most story missions are accompanied with extremely capable character NPCs (i was often carried by them)…1 found this helpful
Gonna echo most recent reviews here, I'm sure the original game was fun on the PSP, but even back then there were better options with games like God Eater. Floaty combat, weak design both overall and for monsters especially, locked to 30 FPS, forgettable OST... But the biggest problem isn't really the game itself but the fact that it has been made completely irrelevant by all other options avalable on PC in 2026. The MH games go on sale regularly (and for cheaper than any sale by KoeiTecmo) and even stuff like Wild Hearts does the "Monster Hunter: Japan" concept better. Still, I will give sequel a chance, since people are more positive about that game in general. Fingers crossed.
First twenty hours went smooth and now it crashes hourly, no fixes I am aware of. Change resolution and all those settings but nope. As usual a POS Koei Tecmo slop port.
This game is amazing cant understand how I did not hear of it sooner 10/10 so far
