About Inmates

The most frightening thing about Jonathan’s nightmare is that he may not be dreaming...

Inmates is a psychological horror game with puzzle elements in which you must find out the truth behind your confinement and uncover the dark secrets of the run-down prison you find yourself in.

You’ve awoken from a nightmare, Jonathan. But did it truly end? You are in a seedy prison cell and have no clue how you got there. You’re terrified and confused, but you also feel something else: a painful sense of familiarity. You’ve convinced yourself this is all just a bad dream. Unfortunately, according to the voice coming from the old radio, things are not as simple as you’d like them to be.

Delve deep into your psyche while trying to stay sane, in this most disturbing of horror games.

✦ AI summary

Players find the game has some effective scares but feel it borrows heavily from other horror titles without adding much originality to the formula. Common complaints include intrusive sound design featuring constant heavy breathing, frequent loss of player control during cutscenes and jump scares, and overall frustration with the experience, though a few players appreciate it as a solid horror entry despite these issues.

It's playable, but just felt like a bunch of copy & pasted horror elements from other games in an uninteresting manner (There was one jumpscare that got me pretty good though).

I can't play this beyond what I have. Constant out-of-breath noise. Agressive mouthbreathing 100% of the time. And the game keeps taking control away for little jumpscares or dialogue. Hard pass.

Inmates is a short psychological horror adventure built around confinement, fragmented memories, and the unsettling feeling that reality cannot entirely be trusted. Developed by Davit Andreasyan and published by Iceberg Interactive, it puts players in the role of Jonathan, who wakes inside a deteriorating prison without understanding how he arrived there. His surroundings feel strangely familiar, and a mysterious voice communicating through a radio only raises more questions. Rather than immediately explaining the situation, the game slowly reveals pieces of Jonathan's past while encouraging the player to question whether the prison is a physical place, a nightmare, or something more personal. The prison itself carries much of the experience. Narrow corridors, gloomy cells, abandoned rooms, damaged walls, and carefully controlled lighting create an environment that constantly feels oppressive. Inmates rarely needs enormous environments to establish tension because its confined architecture naturally creates a sense of isolation. Darkness and shadows make seemingly ordinary rooms uncomfortable to explore, while environmental sounds help maintain the impression that something may be…

I played the new game from this developer and then discovered Inmates! I really enjoyed both! Too bad games like this don't become big hits.
