About Verdant Skies

Verdant Skies is a life simulation game born from a love for games like Harvest Moon and a desire to create something unique with modern gameplay and deep storytelling. Lose yourself in the lovingly hand-painted alien world of Viridis Primus. Ensure the success of the colony as you make friends and pursue romance with a diverse cast of characters. Demonstrate your mastery of the farming system by creating the perfect crop hybrid using the genetic splicing machine - or spend your days painting and making pottery. The possibilities are endless!
With many natural skin tone options and tons of unique hair styles and clothing choices you can easily craft your perfect avatar. Unlike many games in this genre, Verdant Skies doesn't ask you to choose a gender when you create your character. As you help to grow the colony, you will unlock additional datable residents.
Split your time wisely between activities as you help to build your colony. Gather resources, decorate your home, grow crops, go spear fishing, cook interesting meals, befriend your fellow colonists, and maybe even fall in love...
Verdant Skies has support for modding, players have created artwork replacement mods, new characters, extra tips, and more! If you love Verdant Skies, check out Forager and Staxel!

  • Stardew Valley

I’ve definitely given Verdant Skies a fair chance, but overall it just felt like playing it was a chore. I actually bought this title forever ago when it was first hitting the scene around 2017. For years, I went on and off attempting to play it, but I just could never get it to grow on me. I finally forced myself to sink in a bunch of hours to try and make it work, but in the end, I still left feeling disappointed that there wasn't more. While it provides a single unique mechanic, it's definitely a one-trick pony, and there are far better farming games out there that deserve your time. The game's absolute strongest point is the genetic breeding system. Splicing DNA and optimizing your crops and animals is a pretty interesting mechanic. After looking into it, it appears to be the only game on the market that features this exact mechanic. So in all fairness, if that sounds like something you'd be deeply into, buy it. But if that's the only thing you're buying it for, just be prepared to really only get that, because the rest of the package heavily falls short. The art style definitely contributes to that disappointment because it is just so completely unpleasant to look at over lo…

Verdant Skies almost feels embarrassing to own. The graphics are bad, the characters are boring, the gameplay is repetitive, and the world feels incredibly empty. Everything feels underdeveloped, like there wasn't enough imagination put into making the setting or characters interesting. Somehow, the game also manages to make certain mechanics unnecessarily convoluted. So you're constantly bouncing between "this is boring" and "wtf is this?" I tried to find something worth sticking around for, but I just can't recommend it.

I SMASHED this game in like 3 days. Some of the mechanics are confusing at first but then you realize it's a lot easier than you think. My only criticism is that some of the controls are a little stiff and before you get the speed upgrade you walk infuriatingly slow. That being said I literally couldn't put this down for three days straight

Really fun! I only have three hours played on Steam, but that's because I actually got this ages ago in the Itch racial justice bundle; I've played for ages! The highlight of this game is definitely the DNA splicing system, which lets you customize your plants' (and, later, animals') traits through the medium of puzzly fun. Growing crops is satisfying, too (though not so much the endless watering XD), and aspects like the home decoration offer enjoyable variety. It's a pretty easy game, which some may dislike, but I actually prefer when games are easy, so that just makes it better for me. I'm personally not big on the dating sim aspect (everyone's a bit too fluffy for my tastes), but I appreciate how many different characters you unlock to fill out your colony as time goes on, and completing everyone's collections is an entertaining challenge. I also like the little cutscenes for each relationship heart. The UI can be a little rough around the edges and finding scrap gets tedious, but the scenery is pretty, the gameplay loop is satisfying, and you can tell the game was made with love. Overall, I really liked it, and would recommend. Edit: Also, I'm on a Mac, and even though I get …

This game is sublime. The characters are really well done, while being the typical stereotypes. A good game for relaxing, there is no sense of a time crunch.
