About Auro: A Monster-Bumping Adventure

Auro: A Monster Bumping Adventure introduces a new kind of gameplay: Bumping Tactics.

Guide Prince Auro through procedurally generated dungeons in this one-of-a-kind single-player turn based game, with only a handful of tactical spells and your wits to protect you. Face a variety of monsters, each with their own fun abilites, and then when they least expect it, give 'em a healthy bump, straight into the drink!

Auro is easy to learn, difficult to master, thanks to Dinofarm Games, who've taken over six years to polish this critically-acclaimed game and bring it to Steam in its best form yet.

Features
  • A single-player competitive campaign mode
  • Procedurally generated maps
  • Deep, skill-based gameplay
  • Emergent complexity! Crazy combos!
  • Nine carefully balanced and exciting spells
  • Quickly get to the action - no nonsense!
  • A whole bunch of fun, challenging monsters
  • Detailed, colorful pixel art
  • An original thematic soundtrack
  • From Dinofarm Games, the creators of the hit iOS dungeon-crawler 100 Rogues

The game has been massively overhauled for its Steam version, with new art, a completely redesigned UI, a new map generation algorithm, new rules, changes to monsters and spells, and much more.

"Auro: A Monster-Bumping Adventure" is a poorly made mobile app that was dumped on Steam, presumably because Google and Apple took out restraining orders or something. The mobile app stores have quality control where Valve doesn't, of course, which explains how all this mobile garbage ends up here. What do you do in the game? Well it's a crappy minimum viable product turn based hex map strategy-lite, with no content because the developer thinks procgen algoriths are an acceptable substitute. They are not. The graphics aren't great... that will understandably be a turn off for a lot of gamers, and it's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. Gaming is a primarily visual medium, and if developers want to succeed, they must understand that it's not an area for compromise. You deserve better than compromises. The developer chose not to do the job of a real game developer and create meaningful bespoke levels, narrative based gameplay progression and so on. Instead, they decided that "Procgen IS content!" and lazily tried to use procgen algorithms to create infinite, samey, repetitive, soulless levels, because that's a lo…

Auro: A Monster-Bumping Adventure is one of those strategy games that looks simple until I actually start thinking about what I am doing. I play as Prince Auro in randomly generated dungeons, and instead of relying on traditional attacks, I mostly defeat monsters by bumping them into water. I really liked how strange that sounds, because the mechanic ends up creating a surprisingly deep tactical puzzle. Movement is the heart of the game. Every step matters because enemies react to my position, and I have to think about where I want them to move before I can safely push them toward danger. I enjoyed planning several actions ahead rather than simply reacting to whatever is closest. The hex based maps give me enough space to experiment, while the turn based structure lets me stop and actually consider each move. The spells are where things become much more interesting. I have a collection of tactical abilities that can change how enemies move, how I position myself and how I create bigger combos. I liked learning how different abilities could interact because the game rewards creativity much more than simply choosing the strongest looking spell. A good combination can completely cha…

Recommended only for hardcore players. Not for casual player. Fun game at first. But it gets repetitive and boring very quick. Progress is hard. One loss means you need to repeat the challenge twice to progress, forcing you to face the same situation again. It could have been designed as a stage-based system instead of rank-based. Probably getting better when you figured out all the enemies and strat. A correct move can wipe out all enemies, which is very satisfying. However, skill cooldowns do not reduce while engaging enemies, so if you make a wrong decision, a loss is almost guaranteed.
