Rogue Trooper Redux

I really don't understand why this was ever re-released. I mean its not nor has it ever been a very good game. Its mid avarage at best. I just saw that there was a movie coming up and remembered playing this millions of years ago.. And it feels wrong to diss a an old game, for being old and out dated.. But here goes. So I would advise anyone, who is thinking of buying this cause of the movie hype to reconsider, even if its on sale it is old and yanky game. Actually a high pass on the count of game having some bugs that foil all progression and make finishing the game impossible.

Absolutely awful post-cutscene checkpoint makes it impossible to progress.

Fun game, terrible controls. Having the mouse sensitivity on X and Y axis be different no matter what you're selecting is pretty bad, but I could get behind it, the odd keyboard controls can be changed at least.. the game also has the bad habit of giving me tutorials that I can only close with the same button used to vault over cover, and the key press carries over after the tutorial to just get killed.. no thank you. Just really small annoyances that are easily visible and should've been fixed. If this is how the game starts I'm not willing to see how it goes.

OG RT is fun "console shooter". Nothing ground breaking but good time none the less. This however don't really have reason to exists outside of selling the same game for double the price. Textures are HD but whole vibrant colour palette has been washed up, which was one of og’s strong suits. Now everything is just dark. Not only that, but controls are somehow worse on PC. I replayed og game and its pc port played ok, yet now redux version somehow made it worse. It’s insulting cash grab on pc of old game, probably aimed at new gen of consoles.

If you can accept that the gameplay and controls are coming from 2006, then the game can be fun. If you are expecting more modern streamlined gameplay, then the game will disappoint you. The only part of this game that has really improved are the visuals. Otherwise, the controls are kind of clunky, and the AI is not very challenging (I played on hard mode). So, I would recommend the game if you are forgiving of the controls and gameplay, and like the Rogue Trooper franchise. Otherwise, I would give it a more neutral rating.
