Awesome game that still holds up in 2026! The best comparison I have for this one is to take Disgaea (the graphic approach, the big numbers, the music, the combos, the aesthetic & gameplay) and add the squad building mechanics of Ogre Battle or Langrisser. The result will be something exactly like Soul Nomad & the World Eaters. I first played this back in 2007 when it released on PS2, loved it, this steam version seems to be a clear port from the original PS2 copy. Highly recommended for fans of turn-based tactics!

A fun game. I very much enjoyed the gameplay mechanics, although the level design perhaps leaves something to be desired. The story is entertaining enough too, even if it get a bit edgy at times (the original PS2 version was published in 2007 after all). Once you've finished the game, there's an alternative path with a completely different story, new stages and even a different set of playable characters. Also, if you prefer crisp pixels, there is an option to turn off the UI filter, which I think is meant to simulate an old CRT TV screen. Part of me want's to criticize the game for how much grinding there was, but honestly? The joke's on me as I ended up going to half of the story battles overleveled. Nobody forced me to do most of that grinding, I just couldn't resist upgrading my wizards and tanks to have preposterous mobility and attack range.

A worthy contribution to Nippon Ichi Software's legacy. In my opinion, it is not inferior to Disgaea. Good worldbuilding and atmosphere, an interesting story, unique game mechanics and cute girls. As a ported PS2 title, it does show its age. It can be clunky, inconsiderate, and has a bit of a learning curve. But coming out the other side, my biggest disappointment is that there isn't more postgame content. I would love to see a modern sequel or spiritual successor.

This is one of my childhood favorites, when I played it on the PS2, it had captured my heart. It's an edgy, post-apocalyptic SRPG. I'm not one to normally do reviews, however, when I saw that this port to PC had less than 200 reviews, I realized that I had to leave this here. I love Soul Nomad, a childhood favorite of mine.

This game's combat takes a different approach from most strategy RPGs. Instead of moving individual units around the battlefield, you're commanding squads arranged into formations, with each character occupying a position that directly affects how the group performs. Building effective rooms, recruiting new allies, and experimenting with different team compositions became just as satisfying as the battles themselves. It's a system that's easy to understand but offers plenty of room for experimentation as your army grows. The story is easily the game's greatest strength. Gig steals the spotlight whenever he's on screen. He's arrogant, manipulative, hilarious, and somehow still manages to become one of the most entertaining characters in the game. The dialogue constantly balances comedy with genuine emotional moments, making it easy to become invested. Replayability is another major highlight. Without spoiling anything, the game features an alternate route that dramatically changes the tone of the entire experience. It's far more than a simple "bad ending" and offers enough new content and perspective to justify a second playthrough. The presentation naturally shows its age. Ba…
