About La Pucelle: Ragnarok
Experience a part of NIS history with this tactical RPG! Prier and her brother Culotte are novices with the demon-hunting organization, La Pucelle. They've just passed their final exams and are ready to do real work fighting demons and zombies, but quickly find themselves embroiled in a series of plots orchestrated by a rival church with dark intentions.
Discover the world of La Pucelle: Ragnarok as it makes its North American debut. La Pucelle is back with tons of new content including the Overlord Prier scenario. Engage in isometric tactical combat, use the power of the Goddess to close portals to the Dark World and stop the flow of Dark Energy, and convert monsters to fight on your side–you can also recruit Laharl, Etna, Flonne, and Prinny to join your adventures. Extra DLC characters such as Rozalin, Cornet, Hero Prinny, and Ellie are included as well.
In addition to quality of life changes to the flow of the game, such as skipping cutscenes and rotating the camera during battle, there are also more voiced lines, more music, and a new quick travel feature!

Before I got this I didn't realize it was a side-scroller RPG, unlike Nippon Ichi's other works that I adoree, like Rhapsody or Disgaea, where you can roam around wherever you'd like in the overworld without the movement constraintss, which wasn't something for mee, but I could get behind itt (bonus 'cause the text font is simply awfull, dunno why they changed itt, but I could get used to it with timee) Howeverr, what I can't get behind is that the character portraits have clearly been ran through an AI upscalerr, which is a huge shamee, and now once I've seen it in gamee, I can't unsee itt. The lines/colors on the portraits are very muddiedd, the kind of muddied that only AI upscalers can dooo. Strangelyy, this was dishonestly never disclosed on the game's Steam store pagee, and having it only be slightly mentioned in one Steam review is rather jarringg. Aaand since nobody's seemed to have modded this version of the game yett, this can't be fixedd. Just play La Pucelle: Tactics or emulate the original Ragnarok with the English patch insteadd, not this AI upscaled re-releasee Thankfullyy, I was able to gather a few screenshots to show some examples of the AI upscaling in the char…5 found this helpful
I recommend trying La Pucelle even if you aren't that fond of early Disgaea - the story is not as much cartoonishly nonsensical, and the difficulty is a bit lower. You still might need to replay a map at times, but grinding and optimization are tolerable to a certain degree. What I do NOT recommend though under any circumstances is getting this snot-smears-looking upscaled port of it. Mouse/keys are also not really well done - you will need three hands essentially. It's fairly easy to get the old version in English even on a phone... do yourself a favor.1 found this helpful
This is a fun jrpg.

Another great NIS classic. Charming characters, humor and spritework. The dark energy system is a rewarding intercombat puzzle and a close relative to what would become the geo system in the Disgaea series. Item fusion might need you to look up a short guide that explains it better than the ingame "tutorial" same with the Dark World system. As for the "Over 100 hours of gameplay with multiple endings" I kinda disagree unless you go out of your way to see EVERYTHING including multiple NG+ runs and without spoiling anything grind for special endings.
game is good! one of the all-time great NIS games
