About Crusader: Dungeon Series

This game is my first deep dive into game development. I am a solo developer that has dreamt of creating games since I was 12. So I wanted to pay tribute to the very first game I owned as a child, but also creating something of my own. The first game I owned as a child was for the Tandy Color Computer 2 called Dungeons of Daggorath. It was a very basic dungeon crawler with simple line graphics. Crusader: Dungeon Series - Dungeon of Dagginor is the first in a series of add-ons.

Game Play:
Movement is done via WSAD (Forward, Backward, Left, Right) with Mouse Button 1 as Primary attack, Mouse Button 2 as Block, and Q, E, R as secondary abilities. The game starts in a small village outside a castle (where the entrance to the dungeon is located. The player will start here at the beginning of each session, but will enter the dungeon on the first uncompleted level

Player will be able to advance skills/abilities via Gems gained by killing monsters in the dungeon. There are 3 styles of weapons for use (Weapon/Shield, Two-Handed, Dual-Wield).

Tutorial:
There is a tutorial level that explains the basic game play, however, this level is intended to be played once.

Story:
The Prince of the Keep of Dagginor has been down in the dungeons mastering dark magics and summoning fowl creatures from dark planes. One such creature turned against his summoner killing him and taking over the dungeons. This creature is a powerful demon called Raijin Master of Storms. The villagers have fled to safety in the mountains and the King has hired you to rid his dungeon of these fowl monsters.

This is for now a negative review, but there's enough worthwhile about this game that I'd like to turn it into a positive review in future. For the cost, the game has two things going for it: a fairly fully developed dodge and roll combat system with a fun little set of special abilities available, and reasonably smooth if fairly off-the-shelf looking 3d graphics. There's clearly been a lot of work put into those aspects, and I've definitely played with worse games on those fundamentals. However, there are some fairly large drawbacks. First issue is that the combat system, whilst well developed, is kind of janky at present. Actually getting my blades to connect with an enemy seemed to be an exceptionally difficult task even when an enemy was properly locked onto and obviously and visually not blocking, and getting the positioning for the stealth-assassination move also felt awkward (I managed it once ingame after failing at all my attempts on the static dummy in the tutorial, and the time I did it ingame I'd been squat-waddling behind this guy for two circuits round a room before I actually pulled off the assassination hit). These aren't per se difficulty issues, just that it doe…
