About Following Seas

ABOUT THIS GAME

Adrift in the ruins of a collapsed empire, you and your ship are a tenuous lifeline to the scattered peoples that make the few remaining green islands their home. Brave hostile seas and dying lands to transport goods that can be the difference between starving and survival for those that watch the rising sun for your sails on the horizon.

Following Seas is a game about ships and the sea. Transport cargo, fish, and fight the weather in an unforgiving open world.

YOUR HANDS ON THE WHEEL

You have great control over your sails, using detailed physical simulation of wind forces, you can trim your sails by adjusting the position and length of guide ropes. Manage stability by adding or removing ballast, or positioning your load to maintain an even keel. Use navigation tools like the compass, chronometer, or quadrant to track your position. Following Seas aims to be an accessible but complex sim-lite. Understanding your ship is key, but this is not a full simulator. Fast travel and various convenience features are present -- but this is not a swashbuckling adventure game. The pace is slow, intensity infrequent, and moment to moment experience will be often mundane.

YOUR FEET ON DECK

Command your ship from first person, and explore the detailed ships that draw inspiration from historical vessels that sailed between the 15th and 18th centuries. Inspect your provisions and cargo, batten the hatches, and catch that horizon!

Unforgiving Seas

Winds can be fickle, and storms only rise when you need them least. Progressive flooding is simulated, along with negative stability effects caused by the freesurface effect of onboard floodwaters. A moment of inattention could see you capsize, and then at the bottom. You must manage your pumps, along with your load and heading to stay afloat in heavy seas.

So far, the most realistic 'age of sails' game that I've played.

I can't recommend this game in its current state at all, it's got a lot of potential, but the game is extremely buggy and glitchy, especially the sails. Extremely barebones, the only thing you can interract on ports is a book for contracts, or to purchase supplies, however, when accepting a contract not a single piece of cargo spawned for me to move onto my ship. It's just unfinished, don't waste your money.

Looking forward to see this game finish. really enjoyed the ships and the sailing. But a few things made really need fixing. All my games ended with bugs, in 2 games my ship went flying in the air when tying the ropes of the sails, and i fell in the sea. since this game is very time consuming it's rather frustrating. a few other things that made it hard to play, often the weather is bad, and even in good weather the draw distance is too short, it feels like its always foggy. the time it takes to travel only 9 kilometers even in strong winds makes no sense.

Beautiful sailing game. Sailing mechanics are something I really enjoy in this game. It's still in early access so there is not a lot of content and expect a lot of bugs, but so far I've been enjoying the expirience.

It is EA and I like it, which is not that common. If you like sailing and navigation games, then buy it and support the developer(s). Learning curve is OK, if you got patience and a brain the size of a walnut. It is worth the trials and tribulations when you get to your destination and deliver your first load. The world is your oyster after that. Fair winds and following seas.

Great sailing game, a bit rough around the edges but it’s impressive for a solo developer. I started having way more fun once I limited my FPS to 60 in the nvidia control panel. Now, the starter caravel can average 8 knots in a beam reach vs the 2 knots before, issue was something to do with wind calculations being tied to frame rates (since I have a 144 monitor) the world is also a bit smaller than Sailwind, sailing times between islands are perfect IMO. If you enjoy sailing, this is worth taking a look.
