About Sailwind

Set sail towards adventure in the world of Sailwind! This sailing simulator with survival elements features realistic sailing physics and a vast open world to explore. Embark on cargo delivery missions, customize your boat with furniture and decorations, or enjoy some fishing.

Take it easy and go for a calm, relaxing trip around the local islands, or, when you're ready for some adventure, buy a big boat and go on a dangerous voyage across the ocean to distant lands. Use navigation instruments, the sun and the stars to stay on course, battle storms and high winds, and don't forget to stock enough food and water for the long journey!

SAILING

Full realistic sailing physics – in order to sail successfully, you’ll have to tack, reef the sails in heavy weather, keep track of the direction of the wind to find the perfect angle. Watch out for the ever changing weather and waves!

Six boats of different sizes and sail plans to choose from, each with its own unique sailing characteristics and performance.

ADVENTURE & SURVIVAL

There are many reasons to set sail – cargo delivery, fishing, exploration, or simply for pleasure.
Looking for some relaxation? Enjoy the sunny beaches and crystal clear waters around the tropical archipelagos.
Ready for an adventure? Buy a big boat, stock up on supplies, plot your route and set sail for an epic ocean voyage, where you will battle high waves, heavy winds, and where running out of food or water is a real danger.

OPEN WORLD

The world consists of many islands across three distinct regions, each with unique climate, architecture and economy. Drop anchor or dock your boat, step off and explore each island freely. Make sure to stock up on food and water – both in game and in real life, as a journey across the ocean can take many hours of real time with no land in sight!

NAVIGATION

Use navigation instruments such as the compass and quadrant to determine your heading and position. Observe the sun and stars, chart your position on the map, and hope you don’t get too far off course on the long journey across the vast ocean.

BOAT CUSTOMIZATION

Your boat is your home on the sea. Make it feel cozy by customizing with furniture, decorations and paint. Cook your own food, clean and polish the deck, and at the end of the day, sit in a chair and have some rum or smoke a pipe while watching the sunset.

OTHER FEATURES

- fishing & cooking
- dynamic weather & time of day
- realistic stars, sun and moon
- dynamic economy & trading (buy low, sell high for profit)

This used to be a great little sailing game with challenging storms and navigation. Now its just a survival game with some sailing attached. I dont want to think about having to eat or drink. I just want to sail a ship using celestial navigation. I wont play again until they add an option to turn off the Food/water and sleep aspects. It just not enjoyable.

That's a damn good game. I almost didn't recommend it multiple times since as a physics game, the basic physics are horrible, I lose many missions simply because the ground devours my crates. It is very low paced. You need to be prepared to be doing something else by playing the game, like watching a movie, you cannot leave idle either.

This is a deceptively deep sailing simulator. I ignored it to begin with because I thought that it was similar to Salt, which I enjoyed but have played to death. I ended up picking Sailwind up because it's so frequently referenced by players of other sailing games as being one of the best. I have been trying to get the hang of Following Seas and failing quite badly, I was hoping that this might help. It hasn't but I have had a lot of fun with it. The graphics are quite cartoonish which, in my opinion, is its worst feature. Once you get past that, the game is fantastic. There are three archipelagos to choose from - you start at one and can sail to the other two. The maps seem small but are actually more than large enough - sailing from New Port to Sage Hills (I think) will take you the better part of an afternoon and a few in-game days, particularly if the wind is against you. Sailing the ship is not just a case of pointing in the right direction and waiting, you have to sail it properly by adjusting the sails for the wind conditions and, frequently, problem solving entries and departures from ports when the wind is in an unfavourable direction. The wind that allowed…

I wish I could recommend this game, there is a lot to like. But the wind simply hates me, every time I try to sail anywhere the wind turns against me and there is nothing I can do. I spend hours battling against the wind trying to get into port. Its just not fun, there needs to be some agency over the wind. Let us make offerings for favourable winds or something because right now it feels deeply frustrating trying to make any progress.

Buy a boat. Then spend more time tweaking it than sailing. I'd say that matches my experience IRL.

Very immersive and challenging. I look forward to the 1.0 release.
