Foolish Mortals

Great old-fashioned point and click adventure. Play time over 12 hours. Nice artwork, characters, story. No fighting or dying (well, dead people but they are ghosts). Hot spot indicator. Help is inside the game, so that was good. Didn't have to use any outside walkthroughs when the solution to a puzzle was use of an inventory item in an unexpected manner.

I have enjoyed point & click adventure games since the late 1980s, but I have never been particularly good at extensive puzzle chains. [i]Foolish Mortals[/i] is a classic P&C adventure game with puzzle chains that are more extensive than most contemporary adventure games and involve lots of location swapping, items having multiple uses and solutions being hidden behind dialogue, finding the right item combination or order. It is certainly not easy, at least it was not for me. Luckily, the game contains a functional hint system that can help you if you are stuck, though I should mention that you should save before using it. In at least two occasions, the menu got "stuck" (I was not able to click anywhere) and I had to close the game from Steam, losing some progress because of it. Also, for the very last puzzle, the hint system seems to be broken, only showing the first two hints and then nothing. Overall, I think this was fine. The game is primarily enjoyable because of its great voice acting and charming art and animation style. There is some humor, though it is not the focus. The story is fine, nothing that will change your world, but also not stupid: everything is not too deep…

I loved playing this game. Great story, presentation and gameplay. Lost track of time while playing it which is one of the greatest compliments I can give to a game.

Wholehearted recommendation. Had tons of fun playing this, had me chuckling at the silliness of it all. It's a love letter to mostly the Monkey Island games, but also the awesome pixeled Lucasarts point and clickers from back in the day. The style in this game looks fresh, and the Louisiana/bayou setting is very charming. The voice actors mostly delivered a solid performance. A must play for Monkey Island fans, a definite recommendation for lovers of puzzles and cool lore.
