Digimon World: Next Order

Can't reccomend this enough. Though fair warning, some of the early battles can be brutal if you're not careful.

I don't even know where to start. It had been some time since I last played game that I genuinely think is objectively bad. Not just "not for my tastes" or "fell short from what it purposed to achieve". Just plain bad. Flawed from the very core. To make things simpler, I always try to summarize the general idea of my review in a single sentence: this game feels like it was done in a complete rush. And by that I don't only mean the active development, but also the pre-production and idealization of what this game should be. I wouldn't be surprised if the developers told me that they just grabbed the first idea they had and ran with it to the best their abilities and time constraints allowed. The core gameplay, as similar to most other "Digimon World" installments (from what I know), is based on having you raise your digimon. Two of them, in this case. And the raising on itself feels like a mystery: it is never clear how much stats your digimon are going to get from a fight or even what which stat actually changes. The battles are very clunky. Until you unlock the "Block" command, the battles can pretty much only go one of two ways: you get one shot or you one shot the enemies. And…

Really fun and addictive monster raising game, the original on PS1 was great for what it was at the time; Next order holds up great in 2026!

This is the only Digimon game I've played that I cannot get into in any way. I understand it is a port of an old title, but it feels as dated as it is, if not more. I feel as if way too much effort is needed to get even a single digivolution.
