Nexomon

If you're looking for an experience that will take you back to the era of 2D Pokémon, and only that, this game is for you. Let's face it, this game looks cheaply made and was, in fact, initially a mobile game with microtransacations. It was then ported to PC with all the microtransactions removed. However, the gameplay, story, creature-design and all in all just a satisfactorily comparable experience to the 2D Pokémon games, maybe even better designed, really make this an enjoyable experience for creature-collector fans. The story is very campy, but got a few chuckles out of me. The combat system, though much simpler than Pokémon's, is refreshing. Sometimes, Pokémon's various systems don't really complement each other and can get a little overwhelming, but this game takes the opposite approach. Fewer types, status effects, moves, evolution methods, items, all of it is simpler and I enjoyed that. Creature-design is pretty well done and because the combat system is simpler, you can pick whichever one's you want on your team just from how it looks and its type (from the rares at least) without having to worry about which one is the strongest. I love this game and the lore so far, it is very fun to play.

A straight-forward Pokémon game without too much issues dragging it down. It was originally a mobile game before it came here without any microtransactions so that might be why the game feels like meh at some times in both story and gameplay. You go and get your starter and venture out across the land to save the world from jerks; you know how this plot goes. In terms of gameplay, its a lot simpler than modern day Pokémon but battling also has you dealing with the stamina system that forces you to play more tactical. Creature design is pretty nice, and the general strength between them (rarer ones have slightly better stats though) means its fairly easy to switch between them if you're waiting for that one you want or you just want to use your favorites. There's also a lot of post-game content to work through but I'm not sure if it adds more to the story or an excuse for more grinding. Overall, its not a bad creature collector game and it tends to go on pretty high discounts from time to time. I wouldn't say its amazing, but it's not as bad as you think it would be. You can cheese out the game with specific moves. Still an enjoyable experience though.

I played Nexomon: Extinction before I got this one, and yet that didn't ruin my experience at all. The story in both games is the best part of playing Nexomon, there is so much to do even AFTER you beat the game, and the after-game content is just as good as the main part. It's funny, it's surprising, it's entertaining, and overall I really really enjoyed playing this. 10/10 would replay
