About Serin Fate

Developer note:

I want to be fully transparent about Serin Fate before you decide to play. This is a deeply ambitious game that I spent over five years pouring effort and love into. It does a lot of unusual things—and because of that, and my inexperience at the time, it can be rough around the edges.

About 70% of players genuinely love it and are happy to look past its design quirks and the occasional bug. However, if you’re looking for a highly polished, smooth experience from the very start, I cannot recommend you this game.

That said, if the concept still interests you, I strongly recommend watching a few gameplay videos before making your decision. Serin Fate isn’t for everyone—but for players who enjoy experimental systems and don’t mind rough edges, there’s a lot here to love.

A hand-crafted fantasy RPG that delves deep into the churning depths of Magic. Explore a retro-inspired world bustling with rich story, unique mechanics, and fearsome Monsters! Encourages an adventurous spirit and offers greater difficulty to the brave who seek it.

Main Features
  • Sprawling and large world.
  • Epic storyline and narrative.
  • Use of Magic and Spell casting.
  • Capture 50 species of Familiars.
  • Train, tend & level your Familiars to defeat formidable Monsters.
  • Hone skills, spend points, and choose a perk path.
  • Complex stats, calculations & combat build diversity.
  • Pursue a deeper relation with NPCs and unravel their stories.
Sub Features
  • Craft all assortments of weapons, trinkets, armor, edibles and furniture.
  • Find side tasks and Witchery errands.
  • Grow a sprouting potion garden.
  • Timing events, day night cycle, and weather patterns.
  • Choose to play Serin, Val, or Human and customize your character.
  • Hard Mode: With greater risk & reward.
Evil is afoot...
Wielding your new Magic, bound into mysterious Monster-infested lands to uncover ancient relics and restore the Fate Stone. Along the way, explore the depths of every nook to find creatures, garner ingredients, train in Witchery, and craft new equipment.

Moments before its destruction, by the hands of evil, the Fate Stone imbued you with Magic. Now it’s time to learn some Witchery, armor up, and aid Princess Starwen in finding the lost Shards of Fate.

It’s dangerous to go alone… Take your battle-worthy familiar, some unique friends, and wits for adventure! Or spend your days around town running errands for the Witches Guild, fishing, tending your familiars, and shaping up a potion garden.
Serin Fate is riddled with secrets, hidden depths, and deeper complexities in combat, exploration, items, and stats.
A Sun Amulet that slows time during the day, or a ring that bites Monsters who attack you? Yup.
Entertaining those fleeting "I wonder..." thoughts will aid your quest!

I was enjoying this game but it has an issue where saves just disappear. I've lost 3 separate games (I kept trying new games, thinking it was an issue on my end, but it's not). I searched the forums and realized this game just randomly wipes saves and no fix was ever implemented from what I can see. It's such a shame as I was enjoying it.

Tons of stuff not really explained, and when explained, grindy. Tons of stuff different for the sake of being different. How do I get blue coins for spells? Chimeras. Where to find chimeras? Sometimes haha. Where do I need to put these chimeras to make coins, the barn that costs a ton of rare materials? Maybe? The description of the barn is growling and hissing. Alright, lets go to the forest. One shot by grass goblin. Princess said we needed copper gear. Barely find any copper in the mine. Give up and just buy a set of iron gear from the local blacksmith. One shot by grass goblin. And stump. And birds because I can't tell when I've taken damage, how much I've taken, if Moon beats Sun and if Nature is better than Storm and the only way to heal is to go out of combat mode and scarf down apples. One shot by grass goblin. Why can I not upgrade my skill tree? Because it's right click instead of left. And the skills to gather later materials are hidden up in the tree, meaning if you wasted your points on the first rows of perks, well, get stuffed and grind. It's so frustrating. I love the idea. I love casting spells to send ethereal tools to cut wood and mine ore. Crafting my own eq…

The drawing, music, and story of this game really have a lot of love put into them. Unfortunately, the gameplay quality and high degree of linearity make it relatively run of the mill. The witchery XP for indexing items feature is innovative but not that helpful. For me, it's a heavy sale only game ($5 or less); also, be prepared to experience quite a lot of pain getting stuck if you don't use a walkthrough.

Make sure to copy backups of your save folder: "%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Serin_Fate\" Your save file might randomly disappear, so test to make sure your backing up works and don't let it get too far outdated. The gameplay itself is pretty neat, basically I just focus on my character and farm development and occasionally progress the story. However, I pretty much always get stuck on what to do to progress, so I focus on my character for a bit and then look at the guide to progress, then switch back to character. There's lots of different ways to develop your character. I feel like if you rush the story that you'd miss the heart of the game. (a lot of my play time is afk time, so I haven't actually finished, but I was close). I lost everything due to my file disappearing and I'm currently undecided if I'll make a new game. I imagine I'll be a lot quicker next play through though.

Serin Fate is an imaginative indie action RPG that successfully blends creature collection, farming, crafting, exploration, and life simulation into a rich fantasy adventure. Developed by Vethergen and published by Crytivo, the game presents an expansive world where curiosity is constantly rewarded, encouraging players to forge their own path rather than simply following a linear quest. Drawing inspiration from classic role-playing games while introducing a wide variety of interconnected systems, it delivers an experience that values freedom, experimentation, and long-term progression. Although its ambitious scope occasionally reveals the limitations of a small development team, the passion behind every aspect of the game is unmistakable. The adventure begins with the destruction of the legendary Fate Stone, an event that threatens the balance of the world just as the protagonist is about to inherit magical abilities. Instead of losing hope, fragments of the shattered artifact awaken dormant powers, setting the stage for a journey to recover the missing Shards of Fate and confront the growing darkness. Along the way, players encounter memorable characters, uncover ancient mysterie…
