About Contract Killer

Contract Killer builds on retro arcade beat ‘em ups and paper aesthetics with chaotic combos, boss fights, hand-crafted pixel visuals, an original, jazzy soundtrack, and an emphasis on cooperation. CAMPAIGN

When the legendary Erasir was defeated, the world became overrun by contracts and other corporate minions, binding thousands to their legal demise. It’s up to Leadhead and his crew to traverse different regions and defeat the bosses that rule them in order to avenge their master and bring an end to the contract calamity!

Mark - This clumsy combatant always has a white flag in hand… just don’t expect him to surrender.
Pomp - A pretentious paintbrush who treats every attack as a photo opportunity. Pompadours will never NOT be in style.

✦ AI summary

Players are divided on this beat-em-up, with some praising its retro aesthetic, smooth controls, responsive developers, and fun multiplayer experience, while others criticize fundamental game design flaws like a meaningless combo system, exploitable combat mechanics, and repetitive gameplay that fails to capture what makes classic arcade games engaging. The game shows promise in presentation and developer support, but lacks the depth and balance needed to sustain player interest.

A lackluster game with a lot of fundamental gamedesign problems, which is ironic considering how hard this title goes for a "classic arcade" look, without understanding what makes arcade style games work. Probably the most bizzare inclusion here is combo counter, which is the main way you gain score in this game. The combo counter, as well as score, is completely worthless as far as I can tell. Raking up high numbers on the combo counter doesn't provide any benefits aside from increasing the score, but the game doesn't even aknowledges your score throughout the levels or on the ending screen. Also with how broken combat is, it is possible to keep raking up combo indefinetly with by repeatedly attacking enemies in the air. You are also able to get combo off of beating invulnurable enemies that are in recovery animation, which doesn't contribute to interesting gameplay and seems like a bug. Overall it all not only makes the scoring not matter, but also ruins the only objective determiner of how well a player preformed during their playthrough. Combat is wonky and unthoughtful. Your 1-2-3 ground attack's last hit, uppercut, doens't have priority over enemy attacks, which mean that a…

Not sure what it was, but I just found this game too insufferably boring to last playing more than one level. Don't worry about this review, I don't want to colour your impression of the game... I'm just moaning.

Got to see this game grow, played it during beta and the devs have always been quick to respond to any questions or problems I had in their discord. Having a team that cares is great. The game has a unique retrofeel to it and the music matches it perfectly. The art style is really satisfying to look at. Controls are smooth, a fun game to play especially if you have friends to join in with you.
