I thought I loved the game. Game is amazing... for a while. But pacing here in everything is very stretched. Story starts normal, but quick, and then has some tints of potential good routes. However, it takes too long to actually make progress. little stuff happens but don't really progress the story after the start very significantly. it takes too long for new chars and some of the starting ones are very dull. its ok to have 1 dull char, but a second one is a lot. I liked the mini interactions around the city, but some have many instances of "nothing happens", so yeah time lost because yes. And gameplay... I was sold on to this by into the breach, and yeah, the combat was fun... the first 10 times. combat is always same kind of objective, monsters don't differentiate too much, and your characters dont really progress in significant matters. I tried doing all sidequests and it was the same every time. the boss fights are very well presented and change it in soooome way, but they are very infrequent to actually strive to get to the next one (As all the battles in between are very samey). TLDR; I recommend the game and want the devs to do another but the pacing is really bad leading to combat fatigue and uninteresting party members and world. I just want to preface this with how excited I was for this games release. I followed the devs on twitter and they made a pretty cool game. When this game dropped I came straight home from my afternoon class, bought it instantly, and hopped on stream. I also 100% the game and got all the achievements. The game starts off really strong. Faye is a fantastic designed character. The next couple party members you meet are super well designed and fun. I also really like that the whole cast are adults and the School they go to is a college (what we wish for with persona). You get to hang out with these people in persona fashion although time does not pass which is fine ! The town is pretty vibrant and npcs all have different dialogues they say throughout the day. There are activities you can do around town like fishing, cooking, karaoke, and beetle racing. The OST also is fantastic and some of the strongest songs are the vintage sounding tracks. A really good strategy rpg with some of my favourite writing of games I rescently played. It has a couple flaws but not nearly enough to take away from the overal enjoyment, the only real complaint I have is the rng use in boss fights but thats definately a nitpick everything considered. Verdict: watch- i mean play it

EDIT: I am now at Week 6, and everything I took for granted as nonchalant writing as a reference to how older games handled their writing was actually a little too preemptive judgement. The game answers the questions you have pertaining the writing at this point. I think my only concern after this is just sheer abundance of characters, but there isn't a traditional level system, so you don't actually have to engage with changing that many characters out, but the game does reward you for it. I think from week 7 into week 6, the game is just proving how much it wants to do and I think I have to update my review to at least mention it is a lot better than I let on in that first paragraph. Still a 7/10, GBA/early PS2 styled game, but just also better than I let on. Original review under this for posterity ---- It's not the best game I've played, it's not the worst. Neat game. Artworks are great, it's funny and combat is clean. You better like the combat/puzzle aspect because they are a lot. I can see why some people find them repetitive, they can be. I enjoyed it a lot! French translation is top notch, congratulations to the translation team! That being said, some QOL change would be nice. For example changing skills in board preparation is a chore on controller so in the end I tended to just reuse always the same comp that handled everything. That did not ease experimentation. For example don't make the player go through the full team and skill list to change them, just show the skill tree as a dialog when selecting a character on the board during prep. Maybe even a preset system. Also, as I found some characters clearly better than other, it would be nice to have a system to force the player to experiment. Maybe with an additional "goal" system in each combat to unlock a better grade. For example "don't have char end turn in adjacent cell", "Don't use a phaser", "Kill this demon last", etc (à la Dofus). I think that would spice things up.

Lovely game - simple and fun, with a surprising amount of depth. If you like Persona, puzzles and RPGs, this is real good. Also fun characters - my favourite is Knute.
