In addition to a traditional, turn-based battle system that combines jobs and abilities, you can enjoy innovative and strategic battles unique to the Bravely series by taking control of your turns via the Brave and Default system.

Brave and Default

Brave Points (BP) dictate how many actions a character can use in a single turn. Players can have characters 'Default' to stock up to three additional BP to use in a turn, or characters can 'Brave', to use more than one BP to perform multiple actions. Balancing stockpiling and using BP is a key component in battle strategy.

Jobs and Abilities

Each character can exhibit both a primary and secondary job class, with each job specializing in different abilities.
Combining jobs allow you to handle two abilities simultaneously. You can create an all-rounder balanced in offense and defense, or perhaps a character that specializes in magic. Your tactics and how you develop each character are up to you.

Acquire New Jobs

“Asterisk bearers” will often block your path forward. By defeating them, you will obtain an Asterisk that enables you to change jobs.

bravely default, as a series, is named around its 2 main mechanics that manipulate the flow of battles and how turns are taken : default grands you extra resources and bravely expands them to affect turns. unfortunately for the team, they should've called this game Counter Counter because to balance the fact that you could somewhat easily exploit the mechanics in the previous entries, they decided that just about everything should have a counter in this game. this ranges from basic archers countering magic to bosses having 5 types of counters, and even counters that "counter all". in a nutshell, bravely default II is not unconquerable. you are given a lot of options and the multi class system is somewhat decent, even very reminiscent of older Final Fantasy titles where you can tweak jobs to your satisfaction until you break the game. unfortunately unless you are playing with a guide, you are open to being frustrated at every turn finding out what new type of counter the game is about to throw your way, and how it's absolutely going to bend the systems against you because someone somewhere thought the first two entries were too fun and that we can't have that. you have a lot of toy…

Weakest in the series, but still a solid entry. Pick it up if you enjoyed the first game.

It feels very akin to the DS remake of Final Fantasy 3, so if you liked that game i strongly recommend this. It's very grind-friendly too. You won't be able to do it right away, but it's still pretty early in-game you'll be able to chain battles together and get a lot of JP very quickly. I quite enjoy corralling monsters together to chain huge amounts at once. don't have any real gripes besides the battle UI making it kinda hard to tell which character i'm commanding when i'm half-mindedly grinding. they have some indicators but they're often obscured or far from the center of my vision. i give it 9/10 so far but i'm only just out of the prologue (don't let my playtime fool you, i've been almost solely grinding and exploring a lot before advancing the story). so we'll see how i feel when i finish the game, if i remember to update my review lol
