Fairy Fencer F Advent Dark Force, developed by IDEA FACTORY and COMPILE HEART and published by Idea Factory International, is a reworked and expanded version of a distinctly niche JRPG that leans heavily into anime sensibilities while layering in additional systems and branching narrative paths. It presents itself as both a traditional fantasy adventure and a self-aware, character-driven experience, blending lighthearted humor with moments of darker storytelling. Rather than reinventing the genre, it refines and enlarges its original foundation, offering more content and flexibility while retaining the same structural strengths and weaknesses that define many mid-tier Japanese role-playing games. The story centers on Fang, an unwilling hero whose motivations are initially driven more by selfish desires than noble ideals. His journey begins with the retrieval of powerful weapons known as Furies, remnants of an ancient conflict between a goddess and a malevolent deity. What starts as a relatively straightforward premise gradually evolves into something more complex, particularly through the multiple narrative routes introduced in this enhanced version. These branching paths signific…2 found this helpful
I just can't into this empty shell of a game. I even played through it entirely years ago. I guess a warning sign should have been that I didn't remember a single thing from it. What you have is a dirt simple battle system, which mostly consists of "walk up to the enemy and press X". After leveling up and increasing abilities, that becomes "walk up to the enemy and press X X Triangle" instead. The story is very bland, and progression is slow. Walk through dungeon, fight boss, tiny bit of story, rinse and repeat. Very little variety. It all feels like a chore. Possibly the biggest sign that you would like this game is if you liked other Idea Factory / Compile Heart games. I liked a lot of lame JRPGs too so I thought I would enjoy playing this again but I guess not.1 found this helpful
Not recommended to play without a game controller. Seriously, if you ever play this game with a keyboard, you'll regret it... I'll make this a negative review to alert those who read this while I try playing this game for real. =============================================================================Update: Okay, I might want a refund... The Keyboard controls were a mess. There's a guide, but the controls are sloppy. For a 3D-like game for dungeons, it was not truly 3D without the actual WASD movement + Mouse's movement to actively change the character's POV/perspective; instead, I always need to right-click the mouse in an inverse way just to move the POV/Perspective, and it's painstakingly annoying to move when it moves up and down, but most of all, diagonally as well. While I do hate the guts of the Main Male Character from the offset, the characters around him is totally likable, especially the waifu girl fairy. I prob stopped playing the game after MC left his
cell after being chased by a warmonger dude, who somehow likes MC's growth...
However, the only gripe I have were the controls and the overworld's VN only graphics (thanks for the other revi…
