inKONBINI: One Store. Many Stories

WOW. This has instantly become one of my favorite games of all time, and I'm prepared to recommend it to everyone I know. inKONBINI was fun to play, of course: the gameplay is satisfying and a nice level of complexity. You can just breeze through, or you can spend a while making sure every detail is just-so and finding every hidden bit of story. What leaves me amazed (and will bring me back to play it again) is the depth of the story. I laughed out loud many times, thought about the game's characters and story while I wasn't playing, and yes, I did cry. inKONBINI taught me some real life lessons, too, and I feel changed for the better having played it. Cups of tea, quiet mornings, and personal connection all mean a bit more to me now than they did before I picked up this game. This is a masterpiece. I can't recommend it enough. Please, please play it.

I want to leave a review because I feel conflicted about this game, having both positive and negative opinions on it. As it stands, I love the potential of inKONBINI but would not recommend it to others. I have tried being professional because this review is meant as genuine feedback to the developers, not a harsh judgement. I have currently only completed night 4. So far, the style and presentation of the game is cute, cozy, and hits the mark right on. This game is the perfect opportunity to wind down in rural Japan while glimpsing into the trifles of everyday life. I really enjoy the environmental storytelling of Makoto’s colleagues and how customers start playing into each other’s stories. You can tell the creators wanted you to feel like you were stepping into a real world with real people while simulating the nightly routines of a convenience store clerk. Which makes it such a shame that the gameplay breaks the game's coherence. While the game isn’t trying to be a convenience store simulator, the game instructions certainly give off that impression. inKONBINI is a very sweet, short game, but I absolutely adored every minute of it! It doesn't take too long to play maybe about 6-8 hours depending on how long you spend reading dialogue. But I loved every minute of it! Seeing how my choices came out in the end felt like the caveat atop everything. It was extremely satisfying and each character was really cute to learn more about. I highly suggest this if you're looking for something that's feel good and has a lot of great hidden messages within it. You won't be forgetting this game anytime soon.

Adorable game with adorable stories. An absolute joy to play. Only wish there was more!!

Loved it from start to finish. It does have some replayability, but I’d really like them to add an endless mode, or at least a chapter selector.
