About Gas Station Story
You are the Clerk, the team leader at 8-Fifteen location #97433213. Your job is to run a small refueling station just outside of Divinity City, a megacity with all sorts of strange inhabitants. One night, when everything seems to be going as it should, a mysterious update appears on your computer - causing trouble for you and your coworker, Sam (as if your work days weren't hard enough).
As the week goes on and the Update Virus “upgrades” your system, you’ll make decisions that steer the course of the story and affect both Sam and yourself. If you’re lucky, you’ll both make it out with your lives… and maybe a deeper relationship than you were expecting. Gain insight into your customers' personal lives (and how the Update Virus has affected them) through conversations, and treat them with kindness or rudeness to influence how they feel about you. If you're not careful, some people might not come back - including Sam!
Gas Station Story features a variety of different gameplay mechanics - the Overworld, the Point-of-Sale, the Dialogue, and the Mini-Games.OVERWORLDThe Overworld is the main area of the world that you will be able to explore. There are shelves and coolers with unique descriptions for each day of the story, small tasks to accomplish at the start and end of each shift, interactions with Sam, and the occasional secret encounter. POINT-OF-SALEThe Point-of-Sale system is how you ring up your customers. There are item buttons that correlate to the prices of the items your customers will be purchasing, as well as a pump selector. There are also a handful of advanced functions that will make the checkout experience go faster, but not without some consequence! Using the advanced functions will lower your Employee Productivity Score, which means the Boss is more likely to come by and criticize your work.DIALOGUEThese are the Character Portraits, created with a Game Boy Camera! You will often be given the chance to ask your customers questions about their lives and experiences - or to answer their questions with your outlook. Be warned: some customers might not return if you're rude to them! MINI-GAMESThere are several unique In-Game Mini-Games that you will need to complete in order to finish your shift - from a speedy round of Stocking, to miniature Turn-Based Combat encounters, and even Adventure-style puzzles. As the story progresses, so does the complexity of each mini-game - and some of them have secret sidequests that can affect the real world!- Mature narrative and themes for older players - 45 different characters to meet
- A multitude of endings (30) - Over 180 unique portraits made using a Game Boy Camera - Secrets galore! - A dynamic narrative system that adapts to your decisions - A variety of in-game mini-games - 4-6 hour playtime

Really effective storytelling. There were a lot of gameplay surprises along the way. I was satisfied with the ending I got, so I don't have the heart to do another run, but if you love multiple endings I could see this being a fun one to dig around in.1 found this helpful
Fun little game about working a shift at a gas station. It's on the shorter side, one playthrough took me about 4 hours. The game has gameboy aesthetic and sounds, its portraits were made with the GB camera and are super charming. Music sticks to your head. The gameplay is puposefully slow. You are having conversations with customers and manually checking in the price of each item in a retro point of sale system. You can be rude or polite to customers and have chats with your colleague. There are maaany different endings and choices for a different replay, and the setting and story are intriguing. Definitely worth a shot if you can deal with the slowness!1 found this helpful
Enthralling. I'm excited to play it again for a different ending. Very rich world and story.
Easily one of my favourite games. There's a lot of random encounters and endings, so it has a lot of replayability where you hit similar beats, but there's still new stuff to see. Runs are short enough (approx. 4-6 hours) that I look forward to the next run starting from the beginning, however, you're given the opportunity to retry your day at the end of each day, and in the middle and end of each day as the game progresses and gets more difficult, so you can try to tailor your gameplay experience if you don't want to start fresh or if you accidentally kill someone's husband and can't keep going with the guilt. It perfectly captures the weight of trying to manage real life under long working hours, let alone working them under bad working conditions, and that surreal feeling of having to work through a crisis that is both directly and indirectly effecting you, how you still need to present your "Clerk" persona and keep moving forward despite everything happening around you or else risk your livelihood. The writing is really strong with great characters, massive world-building that's not overwhelming, funny and sometimes darkly funny and quietly sad in a contemplative way. GameBoy C…
This game is so heckin cool I don't know where to begin. Killer music and sound design, (all GBA-ified) fun and weird conversations, wacky minigames and more! Really looking forward to putting more time into this and discovering all there is!
A very compelling story, and short enough playthrough that you'll want to go back for a second playthrough
