Neo Cab

Hmmmm. Ok, this here's yet another game that would have benefited from a Meh option between Yes and No... This was, ok... I guess? A near future setting that's edging towards cyberpunk-ish dystopia but still far from it seen through the lens of a cab driver. Side Note here - But Lina is definitely NOT "the last human cab driver" as purported by the summary. Neo Cab clearly is an existing organization, she just moved to LO does that mean now this is the only city that NC provide services in? And that it didn't before that? And the NC app just downloaded itself automatically onto the users' phones to let them know of its availability? Ok the last one's not that far fetched I suppose. BUT, Lina clearly mentions multiple times that nc driver[b]s[/b] have a very strict rating policy they must adhere to to keep their jobs. Anyway, digression aside - the story is pretty linear with the choices mostly deciding who among the non-vital story passengers you'll pick up and listen to. Honestly, it was fine, though as there are no multiple endings aside from the choices you make in the absolute final and penultimate scenes, there really isn't any incentive for one to go back and listen to the…

A visual novel with some meaningless gameplay strewn in. Enjoyed most of the character stories, and the game over all, but the ending did slightly let me down. Overall, not great, but I'm happy I played it.

I have pretty mixed feelings about this game. I really enjoy cyberpunk and futuristic settings, and the game does capture that atmosphere at times. However, I didn’t fully connect with its visual style. The gameplay mainly revolves around dialogue choices with the passengers you pick up in your taxi. Some characters are well written and intriguing, while others feel flat and less engaging. The main story and theme is interesting enough to keep you going, even if it becomes somewhat predictable as it unfolds. On top of that, your choices don’t always feel impactful, which can be a bit disappointing. In the end, it’s not a bad game, but it’s hard for me to fully recommend it.

Not incredibly deep and not mechanically complex but a fun little narrative experience. I guess I would describe it more as "Playing a version of Lina" than playing, say, a Telltale game but, for what amounts to a light-"Choose your own adventure" story it's not bad. Full-price? Nah. The sub-$2.50USD sale price? Sure, why not. It could use better telegraphing of what's 'actually' important to the story and threads just kind of pick up and drop off due to that but it was a fun way to spend a couple of hours while I waited for a bigger game to download and install.

But rather quickly I got annoyed by the fact that sometimes your current emotions force you into curtain answers. It did not feel like i have a choice. Because fighting the emotion first, and than decide on something wasn't an option either. But that was the only bad thing about the game. I just don't see a reason to replay it, if not for achievements. Because it bugged me to see the option i would like to choose, yet being told "i was to annoyed to say that". Especially if the emotional reasoning made no sense to me.
