About Tomba! Special Edition

Tomba! returns in Tomba! Special Edition, the ultimate version of the legendary platforming masterpiece.

As the titular Tomba, you leap, bite, and throw your way across stunning 2.5D landscapes on a quest to overcome a deplorable cadre of nefarious pigs. Along the way, you’ll explore ancient relics, discover fascinating characters, unlock thrilling quests, and unearth hidden treasures. It’s a platforming adventure that perfectly fuses linear and nonlinear gameplay styles.

Tomba! was first published in 1997, and is back today in a vastly-expanded special edition packed with quality of life improvements, including:
  • Save Anywhere! No more worrying about heading back to a checkpoint.
  • Rewind - Stuck on a difficult challenge? Try again!
  • Toggle for analog control
  • A museum crammed with classic print advertisements, original packaging and manuals, never- before-seen dev documents, and high-res original artwork
  • A new remastered soundtrack from original Composer Harumi Fujita (who also composed Ghosts 'n Goblins, Mega Man 3, Bionic Commando, and more!)
  • Interview with Tomba!'s legendary creator, Tokuro Fujiwara (famous for Ghosts 'n Goblins, Resident Evil, Mega Man X, and more!)

Still holds the good old vibe from PS1. You will need a guide to 100% the game.

It is absolutely accurate to say that this is just a game wrapped in an emulator. So... do with that what you will. The actual game is good, just pretty obtuse. There ARE hints scattered around as to where to go but often you'll find yourself wandering aimlessly, begging for some sort of release from this mortal coil till you find the NPC you needed to talk to, or the room you needed to enter for the 3rd or 4th time. The sequel, in my opinion, signposts much better; but they are very similar. Controls are mildly floaty, but all good. After that, it's just a rich, gorgeous visual feast, and extremely doofy.

First 30 minutes playing this game: Fetch Quest Galore? This game is ass! Completing the game: This game was alright.... Finding out I missed ONE event: THIS GAME IS ASS. Seriously though, fun game.

A classic oddball platformer/RPG hybrid in a world full of secrets that rewards exploration and experimentation. The port is in a much better place than when it launched, but the price when not on sale is a little steep. A great game at its core and a great way to play if you're a newcomer or one of the many who played the demo but never the full release. By the same token, the Special Edition release doesn't offer enough extra to make it worthwhile if you already have the PlayStation version or prefer to play on an emulator.
