Into The Inferno

Old school blobber. Really good QOL features. Except it is an old school blobber so no hand-holding kiddie markers and danger alerts as in todays game. Thing is, if you just look at numbers go up and enemy numbers go down with no imagination, you are missing the point of blobbers. These games evolved directly from D&D tabletop games. You need to have an active imagination to play these types of games. Every encounter should look like D&D artwork from modules or other fantasy artwork. For example: You move onto a square and encounter 3 goblins. You can just hit the attack button 6 times and screen says you won the battle. minor experience gain, minor gold gain. done. If you play games this way you are going to get bored VERY QUICKLY. OR: same situation above but in your imagination..... Your characters are in forest, and break through some vision obscuring vegetation, the goblins are feasting on a dead deer and spring to attack. Now picture this as a movie scene. See your characters weapons and armor, hear their grunts as they swing, see a warrior miss as the goblin dodges aside only to have its head bashed in by a companion, complete with gore and blood splatters on your heroes…

The first in a series of games. I completed it in about 40 hours and found it to be pretty enjoyable. The developer is active, and listens to respectfully worded feedback about issues. I also like that they update their prior games with "advancements" they made in games later on in the series.

Good old school fun. If a bit basic.. Pretty much just fight monsters , level up and get semi-cool random loot. There are no treasure chests (well after a battle like 2% of hte time it says you found a chest, but its not really one as it doesn't even guarantee any loot, just slightly more gold than youd otherwise get in a normal fight (and actually gold quickly becomes useless in this game, as there's only a few starter shops with basic gear which doesn't take long to get all of) and a trap, nothing really to it) , no secrets, and aside from the final boss, actually not a single visible enemy or much on the map, just random encounters. Game is pretty slow so i sped it up with the well known speed hack that works on pretty much all unity games. Finished the game in under half the time it usually takes. More fun that way. Game does include a nice option to make combat quite fast, so it was mostly for faster movement.. (and the game does have a lot of running around, as early on you have to backtrack to town for healing a lot, and later there are some quests DEEP into the wilderness/caves which you'd inclined to return to town and turn in for reward). This a typical hack and slash D&D adventure. Pros: If you like hunting and killing monsters, leveling up characters, upgrading weapons and armor, there is plenty of that. If you like exploring for treasure, there is several wilderness areas including a couple of monster villages. There is also lots of dungeon exploring. The most important thing for me is the developer wrote a helpful Manual (too many developers don't, leading to the frustration of figuring out basic games controls). Also this game came out in 2023 and the developer is still active on the Steam message boards. It also has Steam Achievements. Cons: This game has a basic interface without detailed graphics and animations. The back story is fairly simple. There only a few simple quests. Non-Player Characters Are also very basic. None of this is a deal breaker for me. This is the first installment in a 4+ series. The 5th game not yet released. I looked at the Steam store pages, and the screen shots indicate each game is an improvement on the last. So I bought the whole current bundle.

👍 Recommended (for old-school dungeon crawler fans) Into The Inferno is a throwback blobber clearly made by someone who loves the classics. If you’re into Wizardry or Might & Magic, there’s a lot to like—turn-based combat, party building, buff management, and slow, satisfying progression. The early game is great: exploring small dungeons like goblin and orc camps, tough early fights, and slowly getting stronger. I loved being able to import my own character portraits, and the spellcasting system has a nice variety, especially the shaman class. That said, the main dungeon eventually gets too big and messy. The map UI is clunky, there’s no fast travel, and backtracking between floors becomes tedious quickly. Combat is functional but barebones (no animations), and gear upgrades stay pretty flat throughout. The game music is irritating —almost I turned it down. I play with my own music or an audiobook. The dev is active on the forums and even took some of my suggestions into account, which was awesome.
