About Caves of Lore

New Game Plus ModeCaves of Lore is now updated with New Game Plus Mode, giving you more ways to continue, rebuild, and replay after completing the game.

After finishing the game, you can restart with bonuses from your last game or continue the game without restarting. New Game Plus lets you carry forward permanent stat increases, some memorized abilities and spells, previously unlocked traits, and equipped necklaces and rings.

You may choose to reuse your stats or re-roll them for a fresh approach while keeping permanent gains.

This update also adds new equipment options. Necklaces now have Resonance, which increases damage when worn with other items made from similar materials. Enchantments can now be destroyed, giving you more control over your gear and builds.

MY JOURNEY MAKING THIS GAME
I'm a self-taught solo-dev who built this passion project over 6 years while holding down a full time job and raising a family. I dedicated myself to work 5 minutes a day no matter what, and built the game piece by piece, not really knowing where I was going or how it would all end.

CAVES OF LORE
  • Caves of Lore is a turn-based, pixel-art, fantasy CRPG that combines elements of environmental exploration and character interaction with tactical, grid-based combat.
  • Fun and weird adventures await as you progress through a world full of monsters and humor. Hidden secrets and strange powers abound, allowing for a highly customizable party. Vast amounts of loot and treasure constantly increase your power, while dialogue, books and lore are waiting for those who want to be drawn into the world further.
  • Dark themes and ancient horrors don’t keep this game from remaining upbeat and funny, with a story that unfolds in unexpected ways. Tactical combat, endless magical item combos, and a vast array of spells, abilities and traits make for great replay value.
  • 6 character capacity party, 65+ spells, 65+ abilities, 65+ traits, 50+ monsters, 40+ NPCs , 30+ quests, and 20+ areas to explore. Hundreds of items and tens of thousands of enchantment combinations make for all manner of powerful items.

Simply amazing game. I've been playing RPG for over 30 years and this is one of the best games I've played in the genre. The storyline, combat mechanics and fun I've had from a game created by one person is simply phenomenal. I can't wait to see more games from this designer. I look forward to the sequel and I hope some big franchise picks up your talent and gives you the freedom and resources to create more traditional RPGs.

Do you like exploring? This game has it in spades! There's so much to dive into and explore. Lots of great loot, quests that unlock new things, great depth of builds. I just love pushing deeper and deeper into new areas and finding new places and secrets and loot and monsters. It feels like there's a ton to do. Really enjoying it!

the further i got into it, the more i got into it... it gets deeper and deeper. I'm enjoying now even more than when I started on mobile.. I enjoyed it, then got it on PC for easier time playing, and now I'm learning and really the game seems like I got a lot to do.. and builds to try. I'm excited.

Time Played: Completed. 20 – 25 hrs. Had a couple of restarts. TLDR: This is a fun medium sized dungeon crawler made by a solo dev. While it has some rough edges, it does a lot with a little. If your looking for cutting edge graphics or something like that, this probably isn’t for you. If your however looking for an interesting setting and a story that while not ground breaking, it does a very good job at setting the atmosphere for the world. It could do with a little more explanation about how some of the systems work and little more fleshing out here and there but, whats here is worth playing through. Your just going to have to use your imagination a bit when it comes to the presentation. The good thing is the developer is still working (and is very responsive to bug reports!) on this and continues to improve the game 3 years after it was released. If your into “retro” gaming or just want an old fashioned game that relies more on its game play and its world building than making your PC sound like a jet engine, check this one out. Review: World / Setting: As far as you know, there is only the town. There used to be other places and even this place may have had a different n…

That was brilliant! Just completed it. Was totally hooked. The combat, exploration and secrets! Had the dog all the way through, he turned into my most powerful character. 50+ hours well spent. The only thing I don't like is that there's not MORE....yet?
