Dead Island Definitive Edition

Already owned, and have played the original version (meanwhile delisted and no longer on the store). It's pretty obvious the game wants us to play in co-op, something I dont really do or like, but even in singleplayer it's a fun ride with very enjoyable melee combat. Story is mighty silly, but in a B Movie kind of silly, it's fun. This version is basically the same apart from some visual looks and weapon designs, it's a matter of personal taste, but I dont like (and never will) that the original is taken out of the store.

I would have recommended this game to people when I was a teen when it first released and I beat it on PS3, but having bought it in 2026 for PC for a replay, I can't recommend this game anymore. It's still a good looking game for it's time, but it really isn't worth it to play. Why do I say that? Because games like Dying Light and Dead Island 2 exist. Now, would I rather play Dead Island 2 over Dead Island 1? No, but that's because nostalgia is what is mostly carrying me through DI1 and I just found DI2 to be less engaging than the first game in every way except for the combat and story; combat in DI2 was much better and more gory, which is exactly the type of ♥♥♥♥ you want in a game like this. Games like these rarely need a story but I'll give credit where it's due for DI2. But how does DI1 fare on its own? CONS: The problems with DI1 are few but they are big problems that hinder the game. Things like fetch quests (which is most of the game so no need to elaborate why that's an issue), a boring story (there barely is one), janky combat, and bad UI. For combat, it makes no sense as to why when I'm close to a zombie, aiming at them, and swing my weapon it doesn't hit them? Yet…

A fun story, way easier playing with friends, for a "definitive edition" the graphics are quite bad, has a lot of bugs but overall is very playable and fun.

One of the best games ever made. A true masterpiece. This game still looks AMAZING in 2026, and it's still an incredible coop experience. They can't and won't make games like this anymore.
