Weird to say but even though this is a very old game but nothing really has come close to the management side of running a restaurant. The focus here is much more in managing suppliers/ingredient costs than cooking mini games and recipe experimentation that has dominated this genre. There are new updates coming out now which help modernise it a bit as well. I still go back to this game every couple of years so I am really hoping for a DLC in the future.

This is a fantasic gem of a game. My favourite restaurant sim, and the fact you get 1 and 2 for the price is great value. While an older game, I think it still stands up well today, and great the developer has begun some quol improvements. Its a fun wee game, definately pick it up.

A great old game, and development has apparently re-started. If you don't mind the dated graphics, definitely worth trying out!

So, seeing this receive some (very welcome) out-of-the-blue updates well over 15 years after initial release, and ten years after the last blog-post has prompted me to write a review in the vain hope of jogging some interest in a potential Restaurant Empire 3. Restaurant Empire 2 is a restaurant simulation game, in the model of numerous other "tycoon" games. Players can choose either a campaign mode, going through linear missions with time-limits, or a sandbox mode where you can start a restaurant (French, Italian, American, German and a Coffee Shop) from scratch. The campaign mode does have some interesting features, such as cooking competitions and a gradual unlocking of dishes and cuisines, but personally, I've always enjoyed the sandbox element of the game more. In starting a restaurant, you have control over the menu (including drinks), restaurant layout, staff, staff training and decor, amongst other things. While some of the options are basic by today's standards, some are surprisingly in-depth - for example, every dish can be customised to use a specific quality of every individual ingredient, should you wish, allowing for some interesting optimisation options. This game is legendary and I absolutely love the game! As I didnt have a steam version for a long time, I have no idea how much time I have spent playing it over the years but it's probably at least 200-300+ hours. I have played hundreds of games over the years, but always come back to it when I just need something to take my mind off everything going on in the world and cheer me up. Out of over 500 games, I would put it somewhere in my top 10-20 all time best games list. I got Diablo 2 resurrected a while back for nostaliga, and have played this more, and enjoyed it more, so its pretty darn good to be able to beat an upgraded version of DIablo 2 in enjoyment. Its a fun cosy game to play in the winter, or when you are having a day where you want to chill out and play something calm to take a break from stress. It is a little dated graphically compared to newer games like Sims 4 or Inzoi, but after playing it for a few hours you dont notice it all because the gameplay draws you in and the graphics dont matter. The studio has been updating it recently to get it working well on modern systems and have been ironing out bugs and even adding new features which has been AMAZIN…
