Chef: A Restaurant Tycoon Game receives praise for its cozy atmosphere and creative recipe-building mechanics, but players consistently criticize the inadequate tutorial that fails to explain core systems like ingredient improvement and recipe quality mechanics. The early game feels slow and grindy even with time acceleration, and several players express frustration with counterintuitive design choices such as ingredients lowering dish quality, limited recipe customization, and poor UI organization.
I had a few issues with this game. 1. The Tutorial - the tutorial didn't actually explain much, just a tour through the interfacing. Do design types affect the type of customer or money earned? Do you need to improve all of your ingredients to improve a dish? It was a player guide I was reading that even mentioned using the Ingredient Points to improve the already unlocked ingredients since all the parts of a dish need to be improved before the dish will be improved. Even then, the guide was older so not even sure if the aspects were still relevant! 2. It felt like an idle phone game. I went through the tutorial and was able to just put it on 4x speed and just leave it alone. Even then, idle phone games usually have you quite involved int he beginning and it's deeper in that you're able to automate everything. I was able to put this on 4x right after the tutorial and step away. There were not QTE to handle, no decisions that did anything other than unlock new furniture, or anything that actually needed my attention. The worst part is I have no clue how much of this experience was me not understanding things or how much was the game. I had no clue how to entice new customer…2 found this helpful
Fun relaxing little game. The food creation part is very extensive, but don't expect the management aspect of the game to be very deep. You hire cooks and waiters, who can level their skills and then you have to find the balance to either pay them more money to restore their stamina after a work day, or hire more staff so they don't need to spend so much stamina in the first place. You add the recipes you made (or some premade ones if you like) to the menu, can decorate your restaurant and have several ways to increase the amount of customers to get in. The real fun of the game is in creating recipes and finding flavours that go well together, and deciding what kind of restaurant you like to make. The game doesn't force you to make a specific type (although you do get a few bonuses by picking one of the preset specializations), so you get to do what you find fun. The artstyle is cute. Even though the game has a few little bugs that will likely not get fixed anymore, I have not encountered anything game breaking and I have an ongoing playthrough that I keep coming back to in between other games, where I slowly build out my restaurant empire. If they ever make a sequel where …1 found this helpful
good relaxed game. for old folks like me missing the good old Pizza Tycoon
Great game wish it got more updates! Dlcs could use some fixing! Pacing can be hot and cold start you have to make alot of custom recipes fully enjoy making recipes simple fun!
I love this game it makes me feel really cozy
I would love to see an update on this where when you go to the stats it only shows what’s on your menu, a base for recipes such as pizza so have the pizza base and just being able to add toppings. When making recipes some times the required ingredients and amounts lower the quality, why? And when making a pizza cheese lowers my quality, most people have cheese on their pizza why is it lowering the quality? This happened across many recipes. I would love more freedom in creating recipes, I don’t like having to select the dish I want to make from the menu. A search bar on ingredients panel would also be nice. Also being able to edit the recipes that you start off with, just being able to add more to them to get that quality up. I could never get the flavour above 50 although small it would be nice if it went higher. When making recipes, the required fields sometimes made it to fatty or something else and it doesn’t matter what I added I couldn’t balance it out without lowering the quality ADD MORE GENERAL ITEMS TO DECORATIONS, this was so hard because there simply isn’t much under the general so to get the stats up for the customer base that like general I didn’t know what…
