About Overthrown

You play as a Monarch in possession of an ancient soul-stealing crown with magical abilities. With its power, establish a kingdom in a perilous wilderness and defend it from mutants and bandits roaming the land. Build, gather resources, farm the land and more to turn your fledgling realm into a commanding, self-sustaining kingdom. As your fame grows, more will flock to your banner – but so will those who have come to overthrow you.

BUILD ANYWHERE

Construct a kingdom from scratch and transform the wilderness into a developed community. Decide which buildings go where, and then manage your citizens to automate everything from there! Don’t like where you placed something? Just pick it up and toss it somewhere else!

LIFT ANYTHING

Throw whole trees at the sawmill to make planks or run through the forest carrying your sawmill to absorb trees along the way! Resource gathering is fun and easy thanks to your crown’s power. Or maybe you have too many enemies around. Pick up monster nests and place them near bandit camps to have them fight each other instead (and obtain free loot!).

FIGHT LIKE AN ANIME PROTAGONIST

Villagers being eaten by mutants? Run across a lake at 100 km/h to rescue them in time! Being shot at by outlaws up in the hills? Spin-attack so fast that you take off like a helicopter and descend on them from the skies!

SURVIVE THE SEASONS

Manage resources and stockpile enough food to last the winter. Guard your farmlands (and peasants) from hungry mutants while waiting for your crops to grow. Keep polluting workshops away or see the land turn barren. Ultimately, keep your people happy or see them desert you for the outlaws.

PLAY WITH YOUR FRIENDS

Overthrown can be played offline in single player, or with a group of up to six friends in online co-op!

i had the most faith in this game out of anyone, i played for hours and put several worlds into my play time. heavily disappointed with how the game is being handled. they completely abandoned it when it had so much potential. very unhappy with the state of the game. i left for two months and came back without a single bug fix. definitely lost a fan tbh.

Don't. Here's why. Want to build a city? Can't. One ore mine pumps out 4k pollution and most zones can at most handle 6. Any other 'stinky' building? Expect similar. What happens if you over pollute the area? Everything dies and stops growing. Oh and, even better, if you happen to over pollute a zone in the distance, it still bleeds into other zones, slowly expanding the 'git gud' sphere where eventually your whole map is now uninhabitable. Why? They haven't fixed some of the majorly glaring problems with the game. Play on the only difficulty which has enemies actually attacking you? Expect to get 400 to 500 raiders the first wave. No this is not hyperbolic. You could potentially reduce the number of raiders by killing raider camps, but this only works 1/50th of the time. I scoured the entire map for bandit camps, killed all of them and still got 350 raiders. You might think "Oh well this is just a horde game" except it isn't. Any attack roots you in place and does chip damage, meaning it takes quite a bit of effort to kill an enemy. This, on it's own is fine, until you have 40 of them attacking you at once. Ok sure, lets just not play that mode. Still has major problem…

I want to say that you should buy this game. But, I can't for one glaring reason: The developer's have abandoned the game. This game will never grow past its current state; I wish I had known this before I bought a second copy for my partner. As it stands the gameplay loop and building aspects "are" fun, but only through the lens that a future update might make them better. As a final product, they're sub par. My partner and I reached 100% completion in around 7 hours, playing casually. It's sad, because this game's concept is solid and really cool. But it's dead in the water.

Would not recommend this game. The mechanics are fun and the ideas they have here have good potential, but with it being abandoned in this state it just isn't that fun to play. It just feels like they extremely quickly thrown new unlocks and researches and you end up with no real reason why you're doing this or any time to actually develop and cultivate your city or learn any the basic stuff as you go through it. My partner and I gave it a try and it just feels way too directionless, save your money.

Abandonware, at least in its present state. Unfinished, unpolished mechanics, extremely limited "content" which is to say, there is virtually none. All of which is sad given it looks very appealing from the trailer and the initial take of playing the game first hand is that it's very cosmetically appealing. Maybe on a deep, deep cut sale would this be considered worth buying - but even then I hesitate as you are looking at 5 *maybe* 10 hours of enjoyment tops. If the devs (or another team) pick this back up, I will revisit my review. Forgive me if I don't hold me breath in the interim though.

I have tried to play this game multiple times, and I keep running into the same issue: There really is no guide to help you understand what you're doing, what you're supposed to be doing, and how to do it or what 'doing it' even looks like. There's no immediate feedback to even learn these processes naturally. If you harvest something there is no easily visible pop up to tell you what you harvested, no quick tip to say what it's good for or used for, nothing to indicate what category it falls in (is it an herb or a veggie sort of thing) The tutorial quests that should help guide you are too vague and far apart and fail to help you understand the city management requirements. The menus and popups don't help you understand what is going on, and a lot of information seems to be shoved into menus that the game doesn't introduce beyond the research tree and are difficult to navigate with keyboard & mouse for some reason. I feel like I had a better grasp of Stellaris in 4 hours of playtime than I do of this game. Maybe that's because this game gives the perception of being cozy and laid back with it's presentation and lack of looming threat when playing, though. That said, I think a ne…
