Short Video Review: https://youtube.com/shorts/UV16y5zGz7g?si=Vlp8-0R65z6OwDxN TL:DR: 1989 after the war is my favorite SEEP game and is one of the coolest and most unique 8-bit platformers around. You have a sword, grenade, and the greatest shotgun in video game history that blows through everything in its path. It recharges over time but the game forces you to keep moving with a strict time limit and infinitely respawning enemies. This is a challenging, fast paced, platformer that any fan of NES games need to play.3 found this helpful
Short but fun throwback to the nes/snes era. I grew up with these kinds of games, ninja gaiden, power blade, mega man, so it wasnt too hard to finish. Love the pîxel art and the music.2 found this helpful
I came to this game after playing SEEP's other similar game - Ninja 1987 (which I very much enjoyed). This game is similar to Ninja 1987 but made some changes (no double jump or wall-crawl, but does have grenades and a shotgun). Short but enjoyable game, plays very smoothly on Steam Deck. I would definately recommend this game, as with most of SEEP's other games as well.1 found this helpful
Another well-made SEEP 8-bit style action platformer, this one has the most flavor thanks to the addition of the shotgun and grenades and the post-apocalyptic bounty hunter setting. It's a little harder than most of their past games, but the structure is still forgiving (infinite lives, auto save after each stage). Little things I wish they'd improve: the sword is a little short, and movement could be a bit more fluid. I'd purchase a sequel to this for sure, especially in a 16-bit style. All in all, one of their best games, and better than a lot of more popular NES-style games on Steam.1 found this helpful
Fun game. Tough but challenging, and not im a simple mindless rote memorisation. You'll die a lot but you have infinite lives. The constantly recharging shotgun is fun. Im surprised how low the achievements rates are, I honestly found several levels of Mario 3 a lot tougher and im scared to touch Ninja Gaiden and I've only beaten the two easiest megaman games,, but apparently a lot of people struggled. if you liked Roar of Revenge its likely you'll like this game to, even if it's not exactly the same1 found this helpful
A quite decent way to end my marathon of SEEP games (I've yet to buy the latest two released as of February 2026). The engine is clearly the same as Ninja 1987, same menus too, the use of some AI-generated pictures, even the same cheat codes work; the first impression is of just a reskin, but soon the game shows it has a lot going for its own. While very agile, the protagonist has no double jump or climbing abilities, replaces the shuriken with grenades (whose high arc makes them usable only for far or tall targets), and the ninjitsu with a shotgun that is basically a cannon, as it decimates all lesser enemies in a straight line. It's not even one of those "too awesome to use" special weapons, as it recharges on its own. Most importantly, there is a timer in the form of a radiation meter, which is reset when a checkpoint (a lead-lined fridge repurposed for decontamination) is reached, and most passages have at least one point from which new enemies are constantly spawned. You have no choice but to be constantly on the move, as lingering will also saturate the place with enemies - the shotgun is essential to clear the way. As after dying you can't continue from the…
