Heavily inspired by games like Megaman and Contra, Steel Assault provides 16-bit retro action gameplay that looks and sounds incredible – but may prove to be too frustrating unless you’re part of its very specific audience
Originally announced through a 2015 Kickstarter as an 8-bit side-scrolling action game citing inspirations from the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Steel Assault ended up as a 16-bit title that feels right at home at consoles like the Gameboy Advance (GBA). Emulating the style of the era, Steel Assault offers a mix of platforming and combat action that looks and sounds amazing – but also offers as an overall high difficulty level that might not be for everyone. Short levels and old school "hard"
Pretty looking game with awesome music and sound design, but unfortunately boring levels and gameplay. I would still recommend because it's cheap and short. I hope the team makes a second game with more things to do and with a better rope mechanic because the one in this is just kind of annoying.

Set in a devastated future America decades after a catastrophic war, the game follows resistance soldier Taro Takahashi as he rises against the oppressive rule of industrial tyrant Magnus Pierce. While its premise echoes the straightforward narratives of classic arcade adventures, Steel Assault quickly distinguishes itself through its energetic pacing, polished mechanics, and remarkable dedication to recreating the spirit of late-1980s and early-1990s action games. At the heart of the experience is an agile combat system built around Taro's versatile electric whip. Unlike traditional side-scrolling heroes restricted to a handful of attack directions, Steel Assault allows players to strike across multiple angles while combining their offense with slides, jumps, and aerial maneuvers. The addition of a zipline mechanic proves to be one of the game's most memorable features, enabling players to latch onto environmental hooks and swing across hazardous areas or reposition during intense battles. This mobility crea…
Might be pretty good game but absurd last boss ruins all. Awful patterns and design. Only first two levels is fun to play.
8.5 Wow this game is absolutely gorgeous. Really good gameplay too although I didn't like the hook gimmick too much. It's not that it was badly done, it just wasn't my cup of tea. But I still enjoyed it and it was used intelligently during the level design. Really good game.
