28 Leicester Square

A quick horror game, with good puzzles. my only complaint is how dark (visually) the game is. However, that seems intentional due to the light sensing creatures. Besides that, very fun for the time spent.

[h3]Recommended: No – But Only If You’re Over 12 and Expect Actual Horror[/h3] I went into 28 Leicester Square thinking I’d signed up for a classy Victorian escape room with a side of light survival horror. What I actually got was a polite, slightly awkward guided tour of a mad scientist’s house where the biggest threat was repetitive leg day and my own lack of common sense for one puzzle. You play as the world’s most optimistic Dr's assistant. The good doctor offers suspiciously excellent pay, and you – despite finding increasingly concerning notes from every previous hire – decide the best career move is to keep fetching ingredients for him. I kept waiting for my character to develop a single survival instinct. He never did. Bless his cotton lab coat, the man treats ominous bloodstained notes like motivational posters. The core loop is classic escape-room logic: read a note, solve a modest puzzle, unlock the next room of the house, then sprint back across the map because you forgot one key item three rooms ago. For a studio's first published game, it's not bad. The game is a short puzzle/survival horror style akin to the original Resident Evil 1-2, and produces some interesting concepts that should be expanded on later games by this group. All and all, a decent short adventure.

This is a game that is impressive considering it was put together by a group of college students as a project. It is fairly simple in structure and design - the setting is appropriately creepy for this horror style mystery game. This is a single player game - you are the main character - an eager young person who (regardless of danger signs) seems gullible enough to continue searching through a house where death lurks around the corner. Some of the puzzles required more thought than others, but all of the puzzles are fun. I think that a further development of the puzzles, adding more layers of puzzles, and perhaps more options/choices would be fun if the game were to be expanded. In addition, allowing for keyboard remapping of buttons for personal preference would be nice. I think that the students involved in the development of this project should be proud of themselves. They created a cohesive complete playable and enjoyable game. It is quite short - so please disregard the amount of time it took me to "complete" the game --- I was multi-tasking while playing this game - so it took longer than it would take if someone were playing it in a focused manner.

A short but fun haunted house puzzle game
