28 Leicester Square

A quick horror game, with good puzzles. my only complaint is how dark (visually) the game is. However, that seems intentional due to the light sensing creatures. Besides that, very fun for the time spent.

Extremely simple - but I LOVED every minute. It is a very basic escape room style game with the atmosphere and aesthetic of classic Resident Evil survival horror. It isn't survival horror (despite there being some light combat and run-n-hide mechanics), as there is no resource management, limited saves, etc. But there are very fun puzzles, none being too challenging but all being perfectly engaging. It has other elements of survival horror such as a nice map (with robust features) and some backtracking. But ultimately, it is an escape room type puzzle game, which I loved. It is another game to add to the very small but endearing list of pure puzzle games wearing survival horror skin - The Tartarus Key, Lorelei and the Laser Eyes, Escape from Mystwood Mansion, Viviette, and Somnifuge. I am a sucker for this type of game and REALLY HOPE the dev continues on - I would be the first one to pay for a longer experience like this. It doesn't need to be dressed up and super fancy, but with solid fundamentals like this I will have a blast. 7.9/10

A short but fun haunted house puzzle game

This is a game that is impressive considering it was put together by a group of college students as a project. It is fairly simple in structure and design - the setting is appropriately creepy for this horror style mystery game. This is a single player game - you are the main character - an eager young person who (regardless of danger signs) seems gullible enough to continue searching through a house where death lurks around the corner. Some of the puzzles required more thought than others, but all of the puzzles are fun. I think that a further development of the puzzles, adding more layers of puzzles, and perhaps more options/choices would be fun if the game were to be expanded. In addition, allowing for keyboard remapping of buttons for personal preference would be nice. I think that the students involved in the development of this project should be proud of themselves. They created a cohesive complete playable and enjoyable game. It is quite short - so please disregard the amount of time it took me to "complete" the game --- I was multi-tasking while playing this game - so it took longer than it would take if someone were playing it in a focused manner.

For a horror puzzle game with an entire manor to explore, puzzles to solve and secrets to uncover, 28 Leicester Square is surprisingly barebones on Steam. There are no Steam achievements or Trading Cards, despite plenty of obvious opportunities for milestones involving solving puzzles, finding clues and uncovering the manor's secrets. The camera is also a real problem, with noticeable jerking that can make the game uncomfortable and difficult to play. The atmosphere and premise have potential, but the lack of Steam progression and rough presentation make this feel more like a small unfinished project than a polished horror experience.
