About Above the Fold
The year is 1998 and in the small town of Goodbury, a mysterious business man just bought the local newspaper. He fired everyone already working there, and hired you to rebuild the paper as the new Editor-in-Chief.
Above the Fold is a newspaper simulation game, where you grow and manage a newspaper. Hire the right reporters, assign them stories they like to write, and make sure to please advertisers, subscribers and the paper's owner. You also need to upgrade your paper and balance the finances - make sure to save a bit of cash in case you need to bail a reporter out of jail, or fix a plumbing issue.
Can you grow this unknown rag into an international household name?

Its very early and developed by one person with a budget smaller then my allowance during all 4 years of high school combined. That probably isn't true though. Anyway, this game is a gem, and will be a gem in the future. Yes, turn your music off asap or adjust using your systems audio mixer, that is a bit of feedback that can be acted on. At the core this game is charming, you have a deadline you need to meet, an owner that can get angry with you, but also praise you. I imagine it is as similar to managing a news paper in the late 90's was, and a news website today is. This is after all a simulation. You are meant to scroll around and search for things. Leads for advertisers or stories don't just magically show up in an organized list until someone collects it and gets it to the reporter pool. Personally I'd like to zoom out, or maybe make the icons at the top highlight something specific, but, again that defeats the purpose of having to scour city for the next hot news! You are meant to read things here. You are expected to remember things, the game will remind you of what stories someone likes and their political leaning, only if you read it. You are expected to be undeci…4 found this helpful
This is the game I’ve been waiting for, for a while. I love the concept of running a newspaper, and I love that it’s dated back into the 90’s. For me the game play is addictive and I find time flys by when I’m playing. The developer is so pleasant if you’re having an issue in the game which makes the experience even better knowing that you’ll get proper support. 10/103 found this helpful
Would give this a positive review if the game could zoom out of the map and not crash after playing for 20 mins1 found this helpful
Eh. It's alright. Bought it way back when because the concept seems cool. But now I've had two crashes in less than 2 hours, just playing the game. Full release? Pfah.
I've played many simulation games and it usually isn't my favorite genre. I also didn't expect to be interested in a newspaper theme. But I'm EXCITED to keep playing! They've got a great game here! Well done! I was surprised by the depth and freedom of choice. Especially considering that each day's actions are pretty simple and easy to learn. Nice icons to easily identify the type of news. Easy to scan the details of each lead and decide if I liked it or not. And I could choose how much time and effort I wanted to put into each day. Use every available second and max out the day looking for the best possible choices. Or make decisions quickly and fast forward to the end of the day. Interesting in game events and challenges to spice things up too! I got completely absorbed between day 2 and day 3. Each day is nice and quick. As I learned more from the tutorial tips, I started to realize how much freedom and strategy was available from day 1. I'm looking forward to starting another play through with what I've learned so far. But I want to keep going with my current run first to see what else happens and how far I can take my newspaper. Some of my reporters have become friends! I lo…
I almost feel bad giving this game a negative review. It seems like a very fun and enjoyable game and has quite a bit of potential. The big issue, and I do mean BIG issue, is that the game is virtually unplayable. I have played this game for about 5 hours and in that 5 hours, this game has crashed at least a dozen times. I want this game to succeed because what I was able to play was fun, however, I cannot recommend a game that is this unstable. Do not waste your money on this game until the developers can fix the crashing issues.
